Drawing Saturday For Merchants Trade Certificates
A large Lime Springs crowd witnessed the first Christmas season drawing awarding twenty $300 trade certificates from the Commercial Club. Names drawn included Everett Thomas John Evans Vernon Excerich Mrs Allen Tes mer Goldens Williacus and others. A second drawing for two more certificates is set for December 14. A kiddies matinee at the Lame Theatre with Santa arrival is planned. Short cattle feeder courses will be held at six Iowa cities with topics on business decisions economics site feeds and health programs. A December 20 commodity workshop at Fort Des Moines Hotel will cover beef pork dairy and field crops and study county programs.

Fire last Thursday evening destroyed the barn at the John G Jones farm in Forestan. Losses included Holstein cows, 3200 bales of hay, 10 bales of straw and milking equipment. Jack Jones was rescued by neighbor John W. Davis after his sweatshirt caught fire. he saved six cows. A leanto on the east side prompted a snake sighting during the blaze. Mr and Mrs Robert Elder were in a car crash about three miles south of Welcome Mint when passing a fertilizer track the driver turned left in front of them. Mrs Elder suffered some injuries as they continued toward Rushmore and Mrs Holland and the children toward Ceylon.
