Crestwood High School Fine Arts will stage an evening program December 7 at 7 45 pm in Lime Springs Elementary Gym. The show blends vocal music and speech across four seasons with narration and choral readings. Performers include Anita Price Janet Loveless Benita Davis and Marsha Morgan with solos by Ben Hebiman and Orvis Johnson guest quartet.

Cresco Man Shoots Up Neighborhood Then Self
A Cresco man identified as Stanley Smith barricaded himself in his home Wednesday afternoon firing at officers and then killed himself. Sheriff Percy Haven and Police Chief Gordon Watros reported shots through doors and windows as tear gas was used. Smith’s wife Dorothy and their six children escaped the home, and Smith was later found dead from a self inflicted wound. Funeral services were held for Smith, who had moved to Cresco from Decorah three months earlier. he had a history with the nearby mental health institute.

Accidents near Cresco report two wrecks and no injuries
Two vehicle crashes near Cresco are recorded. On November 29 1967 a 1867 Ford truck owned by Davison's Modern Gas driven by Alvin J Schorr collided with a 1902 Ford sedan owned and operated by Hartzell Wesseling on County Road 24 northwest of Line Springs causing about 33000 damage to the truck and 52000 to the car. Wesseling said he was parked southbound when the truck sideswiped his vehicle. On December 3 1967 a 1989 Ford sedan owned by Gerald N Reicks collided with a 1958 Dodge sedan owned by Donald E Kapler both Cresco residents causing about 7500 and 150 in damage respectively. Reicks reported traveling west and preparing to turn left when the Kapler car approached from the west, with another car ahead preventing avoidance.

At the November meeting of the North Central Presbyters held in Reinbeck Iowa Reverend Robert J May of Lime Springs and Saratoga Presbyterian churches was elected to the Nominating Committee and named Chairman of the Ecumenical Relation Committee. The appointment makes him a member of The General Council overseeing presbytery administration. He urged ministers and elders to speak the word of God in truth with three guiding words Comfort Instruction Judgment.
