Free Community Club Movie Days and Santa Visit in Lime Springs

Lime Springs hosts three Saturdays of free double and triple feature films at the Lime Theatre plus two free drawings for merchandise prizes on Dec 6 and 15 at 3 30 p m. Coupons appear in the Community Club ad and must be present to win. Santa visits Dec 22 at 3 30 a m to distribute treats. Local shops promote holiday stock and at home shopping.

Lime Springs Grants 25-Year Telephone Franchise

In Lime Springs a 91 to 4 vote approved a twenty-five year franchise for the Lime Springs Telephone Company in a special election. About a third of eligible voters participated, with the company calling the result a vote of confidence. The franchise grants rights to use streets and alleys for communications, and is nonexclusive.

The Fortune Teller Slated for Tonight in Springs Gym

Tonight at 6:00 p m a quintet performs Victor Herbert's The Fortune Teller in the Springs Gymnasium. After the operetta a selection of Broadway tunes will be sung. Tickets for the show and season passes are available at the door.

Obituary for Anna Tryner Kukral of Cresco notes birth in 1878 in Illinois, marriage in 1903, and four children. She farmed in Iowa before moving to Cresco in 1948 and held church and Royal Neighbors affiliations. Funeral conducted December 1 at Cresco First Methodist Church with interment at Bohemian National Cemetery. Also details a chicken supper fundraiser, school holiday schedule, and bake sale by the Junior Class for December 15.

Lime Springs Community Club Elects Officers and Adopts New Name

The Lime Springs Community Club met at the school lunchroom after a Band Mothers dinner. President Milton Graf led as members adopted a new Constitution renaming the group the Lime Springs Commercial Club. The constitution committee included Wendell Vander Ble H. H. Adix L. H. Novak and Don Gray. New directors elected for two year terms were Rev. Clifford Thaden Don Gray and Leonard Novak. for one year Norman Zachow Herbert Jones and James Shoemaker. Norman Zachow was named chair pro tem.

Judy Lloyd Earns All State Honor On Undefeated Team

Judy Lloyd a junior forward on the undefeated girls basketball team was named to the All State Honor Roll after the win over Janesville Saturday night. She scored 51 points with 17 of 21 free throws, delivering her best game of the season and extending her reputation for an over the head jump shot that pulls guards out of position.

Extension Council Elections Over Howard County

Four new members were elected to the Howard County Extension Council in November with two veterans, Fox and Lewis, winning re election. Six township meetings chose Kenneth Ault Mathias Matzen James town Ralph Fox Afton Lynn Stevenson Howard Virgil Lewis Saratoga and Joe Granahan Chester to serve until December 31 1958. The council governs the District and cooperates with UBDA and Iowa State College in personnel, budgeting, and program execution.

Lime Springs Supplying Corn to Markets Amid Short Crop

A bumper corn season has Lime Springs shelving and selling large quantities directly to local grain dealers. About 63 railroad carloads, each 1800 bushels, have left Lime Springs this fall, plus 35 trailer loads averaging 700 bushels. Cattle feeders also trucking corn in from Lime Springs to Cedar Rapids Clinton and Davenport, while rail shipments head to commission firms.

Corn Produced on 140 Acres Near Lime Springs

A bumper corn crop from 140 acres near Lime Springs yielded about 11 000 bushels. Dale Kruse managed the harvest on Neal Schoef’s farm two miles south of the Y on Highway 63. Two men two tractors and two wagons worked ten days to pick oats and cow feed.

Howard County Farm Bureau urges voters to weigh Soil Bank Corn Base ahead of the December 11 referendum. John Brockmeyer cites higher potential income and feed supply adjustment, calling for a workable program to avoid losing farm programs.
