Clarence Grote’s wheat yielded 25 bushels per acre on his northeast farm. John Carroll harvested five acres of oats at 41 bushels per acre on phosphated land. Nels Larson’s 17 acres produced 329 bushels per acre, a strong result. Tom E Jones noted oats at 43 bushels on one strip.

Nira Causes Overnight Delay For Rockford travelers
Mrs Chas Fish and Betty her brother Leslie and Edith Perry with a laters lelen encountered Nira in Rockford Illinois last Wednesday. Mechanical trouble forced an overnight stay as the garage closed at five and did not reopen until the next morning delaying their trip to Flint Michigan where they arrived late that night.

St R crews lay new tiles on Milwaukee Road line
A crew of about 86 to 100 men worked along the Milwaukee Road Tuesday installing new tiles. They moved at top speed, tamping earth with vibrating blades to smooth and pack the soil along a long stretch, four men operating machines that tamp and shape the ground in moments.

Barney Wells Passes at 87 Old Settler of Howard County
Albinas Wells born April 18 1846 native of New York. He came to Wisconsin then to Old Town Forest City and Lime Springs in Howard County. He married Charlotte Yonker in 1864 who died 1922 after nearly fifty four years. Survived by three living children and eleven years with son Whither and his wife. He was a lifelong M E B Church member and a long time bridge worker for county projects.

Obituary records Deputy Wells former Howard county deputy from 1891 to 1895 under Republican administration. He specialized in bridge work and moving buildings, served in church and civic affairs, and died Friday at age 87 years, 3 months, 17 days. Survived by daughter Mattie Owen and family, other relatives attended the Lime Springs funeral. Services held Monday at Lime Springs M E Church with Rev Davis and Mr Prescott assisting.

The Lime Springs Band leaves Friday morning for Cedar Falls to contest in the Class L1 division of the Cedar Falls Chamber of Commerce festival. They will perform two pieces at the event Theatre and join the masked concert in the evening, with a parade at the 1. 5. T. stadium. C. O. Garrison will drive part of the band, and a broadcast of the contest may be possible.

Swimming Cat Rescued in River Ordeal
Alfred Hoffner of Clarence Iowa owns a kitten that wandered into the Wapalpinicon river with Edward Kinney. The kitten began swimming when urged but was pulled downstream by a strong current. Fishermen rescued the animal before real danger. The kitten is back home safe, and Hoffner reports no lasting harm.

Mrs C J Zook of Richland Iowa mourns the death of her mother Mrs Clara J Wetmore who died August 3 1923 at her daughter's home in Richland. She was born October 18 1840 in Alden Michigan and lived in Napoleon Jackson County Michigan before joining varied churches including Methodist and Presbyterian during Dakota residence. She married Civil War veterans John H Mabey and later Reuben E Wetmore. Burial followed at Pleasant Hill cemetery after services at Richland M B Church. An expression of thanks is extended for sympathy and kindnesses shown.
