Drowning death of Billy Lohuis linked to California move

Billy Lohuis formerly of Lime Springs died at 28 while fishing near Sacramento California. He lived with grandparents in his youth and attended local school. His body was recovered after slipping into deep water during a Steamboat Slough trip with his father. Survivors include parents siblings and a brother. Also noted two separate weekend car crashes caused three fatalities in Crawford County.

4-H Girls Achievement Day Set for August 18

4 H Girls Club Achievement Day scheduled for August 18 will select exhibits entries and participation for county clubs. Demonstration teams style revue and clothing project exhibits will choose representatives to the State Fair the week of August 23. This Years County Fair Shaping Into One Of Finest Presentations

The 1952 Howard County Fair runs Aug 20 to Sept 1 with a lineup including late model stock car racing a championship team pulling contest a thrill show and western show. Admission new low prices adults 50 cents children 10 to 14 twenty five cents under 10 free. Saturday afternoon all 18 and under admitted free. Highlights include the Northeastern Iowa Championship team pull Aug 30 with $600 in prize money and entries from across the state and Wisconsin. Racing Friday features new model cars on the track Auto Swenson Thrillcade appears Aug 31 with both afternoon and night shows. Labor Day capper Huck Steele’s Frontier Days. Recalled is the old Croquet Ground in Lime Springs on a four corner plot west of the Fries Implement Co. It was fenced with pickets, had spectator seating, and hosted the "tired" business men in croquet games.

E J Welgte Winneshirk county extension director for the past 174 years receives a two year leave to become extension specialist with the Office of Foreign Agricultural Relations. He will report for duty in New Delhi, India, late in September.

Mrs H O Terbeest Funeral Held Tues At Greenleafton

Funeral services were held Tuesday for Mrs Harry Terbeest who died Sunday after a cerebral hemorrhage at Cresco hospital. Services were at the home and Greenleafton Reformed Church with Rev. Oscar Monson and Rev. Thomas Lindsay officiating. She is survived by her husband nine daughters two sons and many relatives. Card of Thanks from the family expresses gratitude for acts of kindness.

Commissioning in Texas Peter Garrison as jet pilot

Peter Garrison was commissioned a Second Lieutenant and graduated as a jet interceptor pilot at Webb AFB Big Spring Texas. The ceremony featured a 24-wolf wing top formation flyover at 400 mph. Lt Garrison will train further in instrument flying at Moody AFB Valdosta and Tyndall AFB Panama City before serving with All-Weather Interceptor service headquartered at Colorado Springs.
