Payson Kingston Road Contract Low Bid Placed
Illinois Valley Construction Co of Ottawa a Cameron Joyce unit won the Payson Kingston road contract with a bid of 96374.77 bids opened in Springfield on November 8 It covers 10.85 miles from Payson through Richfield to Kingston with 60 foot right of way and gravel pavement construction to begin within ten days weather permitting. The three mile Kingston Beverly segment will be county financed from motor fuel taxes with bids opening November 17 under the county superintendent of highways.

The NRA code for retailers, approved and signed by President Roosevelt, took effect October 30. A full copy is at the Liberty post office for merchants in the retail trade to read. It covers all retailers under the code, with small-town shops under 2,500 population and five employees exempted.

Woman Killed as Two Cars Collide at Wheeler Corner
A Sunday afternoon crash at the Wheeler corner on the gas tax road and State Street left one woman dead and several injured. Irvin Grady and family of Quincy were southbound when a westbound car carrying five women, including Mrs. Ella Fitch and daughter Lillian, Mrs. Trower and daughter Helen, collided. Mrs. Fitch died while en route to the hospital. The Grady party was shaken but not seriously hurt. others sustained serious injuries. Gerald Frey and nurse Mrs. Walter Hofmeister aided victims.

Happy Valley comedy drama at the opera house
A four act comedy drama titled Happy Valley will be staged on Thanksgiving eve by the Loyal Daughters of the Christian Church at the opera house. Reserved seats are 25 cents with tickets sold at Hunsaker Cafe this Thursday. The plot follows Polly and Rose entangled with crooks, leading to Happy Valley where they meet Harry Sara and Aunt Milly in humorous circumstances.
