Lafayette Sends 69 Men to National Army for War Effort
Sixty nine Lafayette county men reported to the exemption board and left Wednesday to join the National Army at Fort Riley for training to aid the democracies. They gathered at the courthouse after roll calls and were housed at Morris Hotel with refreshments and fellowship at the Elks Club. Judge S N Nilson presided as sentiments were voiced about the sacrifice. Also: Judge John A Hedge died at 3 20 am at his home after a month of illness with dropsy. He served as police judge and township justice of the peace. Worth Jr two month old son of Mr and Mrs Worth Bates died Monday morning. funeral held at their home with Rev R N Allen.

Fire broke out Monday morning in the basement of Crenshaw and Young's drug store causing about 745 in damage. The blaze was difficult to control at first due to a barrel of rosin catching fire, but the company managed to extinguish the flames. Red Cross Surgical Dressing Committee Moves to Elks Hall
The surgical dressing committee of the Red Cross relocates to Elks Hall with rooms open daily from 2 to 5 p m except Saturday. Community members urged to help. Last week the chapter shipped 2144 dressings to New York for France, bringing total to 4977 with a congratulatory note noting no criticism.
