Opening of Our Schools in Lexington District

The Lexington public schools opened on September 1 with enrollment reaching 1072 and an expected total of at least 1200 for the year. The district reports about 1600 school age residents, indicating roughly 75 percent are in public schools. Congressman D A DeArmond will address Lexington on September 18 at 10 am through the Democratic committee. He is a leading Missouri Republican voice and famed speaker. Many Lexington business people may miss the 10 o'clock talk, but out of town visitors for the circus will likely attend. The speaker plans further stops in Kansas and Oklahoma cities.

Burglary At Work On South Street Residence

A Wednesday burglary at Mr J R Moorehead s South Street home netted only 75 cents and an old pocket knife. The thief entered through a partially raised window, moved through rooms, searched pockets, and left a pocketbook behind. A reform tone condemns chronic loafers and violence.

Odessa Fair Opens With Large Crowd and Strong Exhibits

The Odessa Patr reports the Odessa Fair began Wednesday with a lively crowd and strong displays. Exhibits were nearly ready on day one, with fruits and agriculture praised as the best in the county. Livestock shows, including Shorthorn Hereford and Aberdeen Angus cattle, drew many contestants and featured a robust stock and horse lineup.

A Noble Man Remembered John W Johnson of Lexington

Resolutions from the Official Board of the Christian Church at Lexington Missouri mourn the death of George W Johnson aged forty six. He died August 3 1902 at his home during a theft incident. Born and raised in Lafayette County he married Virginia P White in 1883 and had three children Claude Bessie and Maury. A deacon since 1881 he served faithfully on the official board and built up the church and community. The board extends sympathy to the widow and children and notes he leaves a comfortable home and a respected public life. Resolutions to be entered in church records and published locally.
