King a long time Lexington resident died Wednesday morning at 10 55 from a self inflicted act Tuesday evening about six o clock Born in Westport October 21 1842 he was 78 the Civil War veteran a tinware dealer retired in 1914 He married Caroline Leichenring May 26 1868 leaving a son George W King and a daughter Minnie King Funeral services held at his Franklin Street home with Masonic Lodge honors

The Lafayette County Teachers Meeting at the High School drew about 150 teachers for an opening session with Dr. C A Phillips of Central Missouri State Teachers College Warrensburg on Tests and Measurements. E B Wood of Johnson County spoke on what the community expects from teachers. Wentworth Alumni gathered to organize and plan a campus memorial and homecoming. Rural grade activities featured vitalized agriculture hot lunches sewing clubs and club work. The program included Type Lessons in Reading and Preparing the High School Pupil for College. A county community teachers association was formed with officers from Higginsville Wellington and Concordia.

Wentworth Military Academy Opens Forty-Second Year
Wentworth Military Academy starts its forty second year next Tuesday September 13 amid a cautious financial mood with enrollment nearly reaching the prior year. Two hundred sixty students are signed up and total enrollment is expected to exceed three hundred. Forty one enrollees come from Kansas City as football prospects remain uncertain but the academy anticipates a better team than last year.
