Connell Proceedings on City Street Surveys and Sidewalks
Council adjourned Thursday night after approving survey of 6th Street from the Fifth Street bridge to establish a regular grade. Ordinances on repairing old sidewalks and building new ones were discussed with grants for properties along blocks 44, 66, 72 and others. The plan aims to begin work today, with about 12,000 remaining to subscribe and finalizing funding in a few days.

Death of James A Emison near Wellington Missouri
James A Emison a long time resident of Scott County Missouri died at his home near Wellington on September 2. Born May 15 1824 in Scott County Kentucky he moved to Missouri in 1850 and married Rheubena Triplett in 1851 after her death he wed Mary Stone daughter of Dr C H P Stone of Lexington. Emison was a devout Christian a devoted family man and active stock farmer. Funeral was held Sunday afternoon conducted by Rev Frank Len of Odessa with interment at Greenton Cemetery.

Bridge Committee Estimates Subscriptions for Catron Area
A bridge committee met Monday to compare old and new subscription lists. It identified contributors to the er bridge and electric line who have not yet contracted the present proposition, with a proposed total of about $20,000. The committee hopes to secure this amount.

Judge W H Shirk longtime assistant attorney for the Missouri Pacific railroad in this section died at his Sedalia home Saturday due to Brights disease. He had surgery for a chest bone disease. death may partly relate to the non successful operation. Burial took place in Sedalia at ten o clock this morning.

Public Schools Expect Higher Attendance This Year
Public schools opened on Monday and foresee a 10 percent rise in enrollment from last year. The compulsory attendance law now in effect is expected to drive the increase. Last year’s totals were 1,747 pupils with 1,200 enrolled and an average of 62 per room.
