Blackburn Night Shooting Leaves One Dead in Row
Huot Lewis shot and killed Crus Wright during a quarrel in Blackburn last Sunday night. Lewis, in a confrontation with a woman, attempted to shoot her when the bullet struck Wright. All parties identified as negros. Scott Thomas of Waverly arrested Lewis and the woman. Prosecuting Attorney Blackwell and Sheriff Thomas investigated Monday and turned the prisoners over to Saline County officials, as the trouble occurred there.

Miner killed by Missouri Pacific train near Gaffin's mine
Lawrence O'Connor, a 22-year-old minor worker living with his mother and stepfather J Spurger and a brother Hugh at Gaffin's mine, was struck by a Missouri Pacific train Tuesday night and killed instantly. His body was found Wednesday morning fifteen to twenty feet from the track with a crushed skull and mangled face. He had left home about five o'clock Tuesday to go to town. two sisters in Kansas and another brother in Illinois are expected to arrive soon.
