Lafayette County Corn Show World’s Fair prizes announced
The Lafayette County World’s Fair Committee invites corn growers to submit white yellow and mixed corn for county and state prizes. Exbibits use ten ears minimum with special tests for largest and longest ears and a won prize of up to 1000 dollars at the state show. Collectors will store and transport corn to Lexington by November 10 for exhibition in the court house lower room.

Life of John M. Livingood Ended in Corder, Missouri
John M. Livingood born in North Carolina November 10, 1826 moved to Missouri in 1842 and settled in Green County. He lived near Corder Lafay ette County for his remaining years, married three times and left a wife and daughter. A Confederate veteran and Methodist, he built a lumber business and was a respected town leader known for fairness and devotion to his church. Funeral services were held in Corder.

Fred Marshall Returns Home After Four Year Absence
Fred Marshall arrived home Thursday afternoon after more than four years away. He served three terms in the regular army in the Philippines and, after his enlistment ended, joined the Manila police under the civil government. He later resigned last June, traveled via the Suez Canal and Europe, and reached St. Louis recently. He has been offered a position with the World’s Fair, which he will likely accept.

Death of Mrs. Elizabeth Shanks in local home
Mrs Elizabeth Shanks aged about 84 died Wednesday night October 7 at the home of her son Ashford Shanks six miles south of the city. Surviving children include Mrs Mary Edwards Nevada Mo Mrs Jane Potts Joplin Mo Monroe Shanks Warrensburg Mo Ashford Shanks this county and John Martin this city. She was twice married. Funeral services were held at the home Friday morning at 10 o clock with interment in Machpelah.

Huston Parker 13 and Quora Arnett 1 were reportedly cut with a pocket knife in Higuinsville Monday night. The injured girl died at 1 15 Tuesday morning. Both children are Black.

Coroner’s Inquest Finds Knife Wound Fatal in Parker Case
In Higginsville on Wednesday the coroner’s inquest returned a verdict that Cora Arnett died from a knife wound inflicted by Houston Parker. Parker was brought to Lexington by Deputy Sheriff Kinkead and jailed to await the criminal court’s next Monday session.

Meeting of the World's Fair Committee in Higginsville
The World's Fair Committee met at the Bank of Higginsville on Friday morning October 3 with nine members present. Teubner reported agricultural and horticultural exhibits while the secretary noted county expenditures and correspondence with Superintendent Walters. They planned a stalk coin request, discussed coal exhibit representation, and set the Farmers Institute at Lexington for November 16 with prizes for corn and lectures by state college experts. Mr. J. G. McConkey of St Louis and Miss Bell Gordon of this city were married at 4 40 PM Monday in the Presbyterian church in a simple but impressive ceremony.
