A sequence of electrical outages troubled the city from Monday evening into Thursday. Lights failed at seven pm causing minor inconveniences for some, then fully resumed by Tuesday night. A later breakdown promised repairs by p.m. but delayed service left Wednesday in darkness until Thursday afternoon when power stabilized.
Central College hosted a lively informal reception despite a Monday cancellation due to electricity outages. Lamps and lighting returned, halls in both the old and new buildings were decorated, and attendees formed new acquaintances while renewing old ones.
The entertainment committee of the Baptist General Association meets on the 22nd and still lacks sufficient accommodations. There has been notable awakening as donors respond, and a call has gone out to colored friends for servants and house help during the meeting week. Applicants may contact Wm 4H. Chiles, chairman, for jobs or hosting needs.
Miss Julia Davis entertained a company of young friends Tuesday evening at her home on College Street in honor of her fifteenth birthday. She received many presents. Refreshments were served. Mr and Mrs Acree arrived on Sedalia Tuesday evening and will make Lexington their home. Mr Acree has secured work with the Western Coal and Mining Co. Geo W Morrison visited Thursday seeking a location for a condensed milk plant and conferred with the executive committee of the commercial club.
The company, capitalized at 790, received offers from several towns in Kansas and Southern Missouri but favors this locality for the sale of milk. Mr. Morrison said no bonus is sought, only assurance to buy milk from 20 cows if surrounding farmers keep that many. The Commercial club will explore feasibility. Also announced is a Sunday school contest among Libery, Cameron, and Lexington churches commencing tomorrow. Lexington teachers and pupils are urged to attend promptly at 45 to earn points toward winning.
A new company will present The Two Orphans at Grand Opera House Lexington Missouri on Monday October 28. The production stars Kate Claxton famed for Louise and aims to restore the play to its rightful place as one of the few greatest works.
Capt Todhunter and Geo M Catron dominated the Kansas City Interstate Fair with Ashbrook and his offspring taking top prizes in aged roadster, carriage roadster, and yearling divisions. Annona and Bert Allison also claimed best roadster honors while other entries earned premiums. Next week the Todhunter team heads to Sedalia for the State fair and additional races are planned in Shreveport Dallas and San Antonio. A hog sale is announced for Higginsville on October 24, 1907. Several local residents and visitors are noted in brief updates on travel and social visits.
