Central College staged a Colonial Pageant with the May Queen crowning on the west campus. The outdoor scene featured Puritan groups, Indians, and colonial dames with music, drills, and humor. A large crowd attended and Y W C A served refreshments on the verandas after the show.
A Wednesday crash near Independence injures five passengers from Lexington riding with George Lorantos in a five passenger Ford. Mrs Meunier suffers bruises and shock while Mr Meunier breaks both collar bones. Rogers breaks leg and Hord breaks two ribs. All were treated in Kansas City and some returned home that evening. The car sustained only a broken windshield.
The L. H. 5 domestic science class hosted a six course dinner for the Board of Education and spouses plus Superintendent Little and Mrs. Little and Principal Clemens. Dishes were prepared and served by the girls, who impressed the board enough to deem a final examination unnecessary. The menu featured croutons, consommé, lamb, mashed potatoes, vegetables, desserts, and a French dressing salad. Oscar Andreen will visit Kansas City for a few days.
The Spring meeting of the Old Men's Club will be held at Concordia on Saturday, June 8, 1916. Four members have died since the last meeting, and three committees will report memorials for William Pell, William T. Pell, Jabez Shotwell, with named relatives and reporters. Dr. J Q Cope leaves for Chicago Tuesday evening for six weeks of post graduate study at the Chicago Polyclinic and Post Graduate School.
General Henry A. Greene, who was slated to deliver the address, is ordered to the border and cannot come. Judge Charles Mayer of St. Joseph, a Wentworth graduate from the class of 1894, has been secured to give the address. The event promises a strong oration. Too Much Booze Cost 12.15. Eugene Tierney, with the carnival, overindulged Friday, wandered streets, trampled gardens, and sheltered on a porch before being found by police and fined 12.15 on Saturday.
The Oren Rebecca Lodge No. 682 members listed by name attended the Rebecca Assembly at Casino Hall in Kansas City on Wednesday night. The group traveled by automobile. Worth Bates traveled to Marshall on Tuesday evening on business.
The third quarterly meeting of the Twenty third Missouri District Association met in Waverly on May 11 with six Laf ayette county lodges represented except Aullville and Corder. Degrees were conferred by Lexington and Odessa lodges. A banquet followed at 7 o'clock. Corder lodge to host the August fourth quarterly meeting. Also reported a hospitable welcome and a profitable meeting. In shooting at McGrew's Mines Tuesday morning James West shot M Rutherford with a double barrel gun in Red Row. Rutherford in critical condition. West fled.
Dr Z M Williams returned Wednesday from Polo Missouri where he performed the marriage ceremony of Mr Gerald F Schaeffer and Miss Bernice Maytum Miss Maytum a former Central College student was among those noted in attendance at the event and the ceremony took place midweek in Polo.
Kansas City Star correspondent in Lexington reported on the visit of Sen Stone's brother R L Stone who had secured a $75 draft from D C Morris. The drafts were returned but Morris later received express money orders for the amount. Stone still holds carte blanche.
