R T Jesse Died After Long Illness in Virginia Roots
Richard Thornton Jesse born January 26 1835 in Caroline Virginia died Wednesday June 24 at his home on Main and 11th streets aged 70 years. He served in Pickett's Division from Manassas to Appomattox then taught school in several states before settling in this county. He married Mrs Perkins in 1874 and later ran a grocery, then real estate and insurance business. He was a devoted Baptist church member and requested simple funeral rites at the church with selected hymns How Firm A Foundation and Jesus Lover of My Soul. Interment at Wascan. He leaves a sister Miss Mary E B Jesse of New London Virginia. funeral attendance large.

City Limits Extended to Include College Place and Estel Heights
At Monday’s council meeting the full council approved a special committee’s report to extend city limits to include College Place and Estel Heights and to make the railroad the southern boundary. A resolution was passed to pave Main Street from Broadway to Thirteenth. The waterworks franchise vote and extension of city limits will be decided together by July 25.

Mrs Lula Stephens Roberts Dies in Macon Mo
Mrs Lula Stephens Roberts wife of official court stenographer James L Roberts died at her mother’s home in Macon Missouri on Saturday morning June 20 at ten o’clock. She married Roberts December 25 1901. A Cumberland Presbyterian member she was not widely known locally. Burial occurred Sunday afternoon in Macon. Mr Roberts left Friday to be with her.

Santa FeRail line to run buses to Junction
The track is rebuilt to the river and the Santa Fe will run buses and transfer wagons directly to the Junction. Three trips will be made daily with connections to all trains. Miss Olive Carter traveled to Kansas City on Thursday morning to spend the day.

Accidental Shooting At Home Leaves Man Stable
Friday around one o'clock p m Harry Stevens was accidentally shot by Zal Harrison at Mrs. Augusta Chambers home in this city. Stevens was packing a trunk. cartridges moved between plates and the pistol was rehandled by his roommate, who discharged it. The ball struck Stevens near the heart area but did not pierce the peritoneal cavity, was removed, and he is reported doing nicely.

A Warrensburg Star correspondent reports Ontario roads used tar macadam for two decades. Tar coats second course stones, seals against water, and allows thinner rock use. Cost about 65 cents per square yard. roads last 10 to 25 years and can be resurfaced for 25 cents per square yard. Potential local use favors cow tar coating atop macadam for longer life, less dust, and easier upkeep.
