Department of Agronomy at the University of Missouri urges continued shallow level cultivation during dry weather to preserve soil moisture. A loose dry mulch of soil, about three inches deep, formed with a spring tooth cultivator or light plow, should be kept on the ground. Cultivate at least weekly and even after the corn becomes too large to plow. A garden plow or weighted implement dragged between rows aids yields in drought.
The Army and Navy Journal lists cadet officers at West Point with Ben Hoge of this city as thirteenth among thirty corporals from the third class. He scored twenty points in a class track meet, more than any other classmate, showing strong performance in academics and athletics.
The Chester did not appear Tuesday as expected but tied up miles below. Crowds waited to witness a boat propelled without stern or side wheels. Wednesday morning the ship appeared early, tied at the landing, and many visited it while others waited on the bluff to see it pass upstream. The Chester awaited Mr. Dickys Unique, a small craft low on oil before the Jamatic effort to reach Kansas City.
Circuit Court proceedings open with Judge Davis absent due to family illness. Judge Richard Tield elected to preside over the unexpired June Term. Nella Corder vs Frank Corder ended in a divorce decree for the plaintiff. Monday's divorces granted include Jones Stone vs Mabel Stone Annie Thirkles vs Edward Suirkles William Mady vs Claudia Mady William Slaughter vs Peng Loyliter.
Monday morning Karl Hammer tried to light a match while checking for a gas leak in a Trad ers Bank building closet on the second floor. The gas ignited, severely burning Hammer about the arms and face while a companion, Mr Hopkins, suffered burns to the face and right hand. Both injuries, though painful, were not deemed dangerous.
The body of James Johnson was found floating in the Missouri river about five miles below Lexington on a Saturday. An old Confederate soldier, he had been living in Higginsville. Authorities presume suicide.

John Skinner went to Kansas City Wednesday to spend the day. W. H. Campbell went to Kansas City yesterday on business.
On Thursday June 22, 1911 at 5 PM 244 miles south of the city Mrs Cordelia Marshall joined her youngest daughter Miss Nelly Virginia to John William Finley in a quiet ceremony officiated by Rev C M Davenport. The couple left for their future home in Warsaw Missouri. The bride educated at Lexington College taught piano in Greenville Port Worth and Warsaw and in Stew Missouri. the groom is a respected Warsaw merchant.
JS and Vickers traveled to Kansas City last Wednesday on business. The trip was for official duties and included meetings with local partners and discussions on project timelines.
Rev Albert Bushnell superintendent of the Missouri Anti Saloon League will lead Sunday morning services at the Methodist church with the pastor handling the evening service.
