Inaugural Prayer at Davis Inauguration Settled
A dense historical note from the Alabama Baptist dated February 18, 1898 asserts the chaplain at Jefferson Davis's 1861 inauguration was recorded. It recounts a copied draft of the prayer, read by Howell Cobb during the oath, with remarks on the pageantry and the plebiscite of the era. It preserves a donor tale of a donor, Dr Basil Manty, and ties to Alabama's Confederate memorials.
