Mrs. Sarah Ray McClelland widow of Col M V L McClelland died at her Third Street home on Tuesday July 7 at 5 o clock aged 61 years with family at bedside. Daughter of Samuel Mansfield Bay attorney general of Missouri, she was born March 28 1842 in Jefferson City and married December 13 1804. Funeral at Christchurch with Rev John K Dunn officiating and interment at Machpelah cemetery followed by refreshments and public invitations.

Death of Uriah Downtain in 92nd year at daughter's home
Uriah Downtain aged 92 years and five months died Saturday night at 11 45 at his daughter Mrs W Mitchells home in Thirteenth and Main. Born February 4 1811 in West Virginia he moved to Kentucky in youth and married Lavinia Thrallkeld in 1836. Survived by five children, seventeen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Funeral Monday at 2 pm from home, Rev R B Binney officiating. Pallbearers listed. He had lived with his daughter for fourteen years and was one of the county's oldest men and a Christian citizen.

City council awards paving contract on South street
At Monday night’s meeting the council let the South street paving contract between 13th and 2ard streets to W. W. Adkin of Kansas City at 1.78 per square yard, beating Radcliff & Eaton of St. Joseph. Bids ran higher than expected as conservative estimates had been 1.60 to 1.66. The street work must be best in every detail. A resolution paves East Main street between 16th and 21st streets unless a remonstrance is filed within the legal period.
