Governor James M. Cox of Ohio was nominated for the presidency by the Democratic delegates on the 44th ballot at 1 40 in San Francisco after sessions that began Monday June 28. Franklin D Roosevelt of New York was nominated by acclamation for Vice President by the Democrats.
Mrs Mary Eleanor Nickell, born Elkton Kentucky January 16 1840, died Tuesday night at 7 30 pm at Warrensburg after a period of illness. Bradley Receives The Limit. James Bradley who was tried died last week for clock at her home 1724 South Street after a period of illness. Funeral services conducted by Rev Robt L Cowan and Rev Baxter Waters were held from the Nickell Home. Survivors include daughter Ella and son Luther Nickell of Fulton Missouri.
William Herd Jr was in Kansas City on Wednesday for undisclosed activities. The visit was brief and covered by local news outlets without further details.
The story hour club gathered Thursday afternoon in the city park with Miss Florer for an hour of memorized stories and discussion. A Y W C A party at Elks Hall was rain impacted but those who attended enjoyed community singing led by Miss Emery Todhunter and Mr W J Gresham reading His First Appearance in Public. Miss Elizabeth Neil Eckle daughter of Dr and Mrs Walter R Eckle wed Mr J Preston Cole of Kansas City on Wednesday evening at the Methodist church in a double ring ceremony. Rev R N Allen officiated with Rev J E Alexander assisting before about two hundred guests. The bridal party included Miss Florence Eckle and Miss Amelia Taubman Baskett as bridesmaids and Miss Elizabeth Young as a bridesmaid. Ring bearer was little Miss Norman Elizabeth Bates. groomsmen included Theodore Cole Roe Clemens and Coleman Bekle. After the ceremony Mrs George Hubert Bates sang Oh Promise Me and All For You. Burtis M Little played the organ. The couple departed for Mayview and then Kansas City where the groom is in business. The bride, refined and talented, has many friends in Lexington. the groom a University of Missouri graduate and former Lexington high school faculty member. Burial notices follow for Mrs Ada Lamburn Barnett in Portland, Oregon. Mr and Mrs Alfred L Roy announce the birth of a son on Saturday July 3 1920. A two day teachers meeting and a course in Vitalized Agriculture will be held July 16-19 at the Central Missouri State Teachers College District in Warrensburg Pertle Springs. About sixty five Lafayette County teachers attend.
The Lexington Athletics played in Sweet Springs and finished with a 7 to 7 score. Hays starred with a home run a triple and a single while Harding added three triples. Batteries Athletics Cross and Helms. Sweet Springs Berry and Berry. Cyrus Campbell and family of Kansas City visited Mrs. W H Campbell.
The jury returned a verdict for the plaintiff McKinley C. Meyers in the damage suit against the C B and Q Railroad Company brought on changes of venue from Caldwell county. The award is $20,000 for an accident that occurred about eight years ago. the petition sought $200,000.
A marriage license has been issued to J. Preston Cole and Elizabeth Neil Eckle of Kansas City, to Ernest Cassing and Marie Martin of Kansas City, to Rubey Jackson and Anna May Fry of Lexington, with all parties listed in the notice.
John J. Price sold his residence on Forest Avenue to Woodson Barnett and will yield possession August 1. Price also bought a 40 acre farm from Wm. Rosewall near Myrick. Mr. and Mrs. Henry M. Long and daughter Dorothy with Miss Florence Burton of St. Louis visited Lexington relatives and plan a motor trip to Colorado.
