Fourth Annual Minstrel Delights Lexington High School
Lexington High School presented its fourth annual Minstrel at the high school auditorium drawing about 200 guests. The show featured 15 blackface artists and 14 young ladies in military coats with standout solos by Leona Long and Elizabeth Ashurst, plus a humorous sketch and a Civil War era cabin scene. The program closed with audience applause and a whistling solo by Wilfred Potter and a clog dance imitation by Cullom and Potter. Former citizen L C Yates dies in Texas after a long service as superintendent of Lexington Water Works. funeral held with Masons assisting.

Residence Blaze Destroys Ellis Home on South 9th Street
Friday night about 8:30 o clock the residence of Charles Ellis on South 9th street burned completely. Firefighters arrived with a hose burst and a second auto had to haul the hose. Efforts focused on saving Wm Brown’s residence to the north, which was badly scorched with all south side glass broken.

Jury awards Arndt plaintiff in 175 dollars in breach case
In circuit court Herman Arndt sued Henry Eisenmann for damages after an incident in which a dog frightened Arndt’s team, causing injury. The jury returned a verdict for $175 to the plaintiff. Attorneys were Aull & Aull for the plaintiff and Lyons & Ristine for the defendant.

Another Bootlegger Caught In Higginsville
Wayman Elmore of Lexington was arrested in Higginsville on bootlegging charges. Squire J EB Rigg fined him $300 and sentenced six months in bounty jail. Deputy Sheriff Wm. Kelly returned Elmore to Lexington and arranged lodging at Hotel Talt. Let the good work go on.

Senate Passes 332 Million Postal Bill With Prohibition Provisions
The Senate approved the annual postal appropriation of 332 million dollars after a week of debate and sent it to the House for conference on amendments. The measure includes a crime for shipping liquor into prohibition states, bans liquor advertising via mail in such states, and mandates annual renewal of pneumatic mail tube contracts with a government study into purchase. Proposals for higher second class mail rates and one cent drop letter postage were defeated.

Two Lafayette Men Open Colorado Clothing Firm
J R Ryland and Aubrey Groves left Monday for Brush Colorado to open a stock clothing shoes and men furnishings store. Both natives of Lafayette county have many friends who wish them success. Groves will run the business, bringing two years Denver experience. Ryland has shoe trade knowledge from boyhood and will resume traveling after a brief Colorado stay.
