Death of Virginia cadet Lemoine at VMI hospital
R B Lemoine a popular Virginia cadet from Emmerton died Wednesday morning October 18 as one of nine typhoid patients at VMI Hospital. An orphan and Weber in the second class he was twenty two his remains were taken to Fredericksburg for burial. His uncle M Hall of Fredericksburg filed an application to appoint Lemoine's younger brother to the cadetship vacated by his death.

Friday's Fire Threatens Howell Residence Relief and Praise
A major fire destroyed the Howell residence Sono in Lexington Virginia after flames reached the dining and kitchen areas. Firefighters from the Lexington Wire Department battled the blaze using Hose Nos. 2 3 and 1 and a ladder truck, risking short water reach from a distant hydrant until they found a section of cotton hose to overcome the blaze. Fire origin is believed to be matches ignited by mice. insured property suffered smoke and water damage while the family expressed deep appreciation with two generous checks totaling 200 dollars and a note to Chief Young praising the department.

The Presbytery of Lexington met October 17 at the Old Stone church Augusta County Va. Ministers 34 and elders 34 attended. The body deposed Rev George A Doyle for contumacy and heard reports on colored evangelization and evangelistic work. A sesquicentennial observance drew large crowds with talks on scripture origin and Presbyterian polity.

Dr Paton Talka of the South Seas and missionary to the New Hebrides Islands spent Sunday in Lexington. He addressed the Presbyterian congregation at the opera house then spoke at the Methodist church and led a union service at the Episcopal church. He urged U S action to curb whiskey and explosive sales by traders, noting England has adopted such policy. Collections at morning and evening services exceeded $100.
