Farmers Tramway Completed Near Nezperce Prairie

Nezperce prairie farmers completed a tramway between Kamiah and Greer to haul this fall's crop to the river. A San Francisco firm supplied the tram parts, John McLeod of Kendrick installed it, and a large engine drives the endless steel cable with 13,200 feet of wire. Four hundred thousand bushels of grain are stored at the tramway and warehouses rise near the side track as land and rail activity grow around Fairplay.

Great Winter for Cattle in Salma and Snake River Regions

Cattlemen along the Salma and Snake rivers report an excellent winter outlook with fatter cattle than ever, thanks to abundant grass from recent rains. Last year’s drought didn’t prevent a favorable winter, and while some stockmen carry over previous year's cattle, most are well supplied. Prices are expected to stay high, and local beef quality is praised as among the finest in the world, with Christmas roast beef described as a luxury even in Grangeville.

Beaded indebtedness of Lewiston bonds debate

Councilman Hastings replies to claims the proposed bond issue would exceed legal limits. He cites Lewiston's assessed valuation of 1 245 060 dollars, a 15 percent bonding cap of 196 759 dollars, current debt of 92 000 across water and street bonds, leaving 96 799 available. A 60 000 bond would leave about 36 759 under the limit. The Bionard family held a reunion with Thanksgiving dinner at their home.
