City to buy Lewiston water plant for 70000 cash

Lewiston voters will ratify a city council purchase of the Lewiston Water Company plant and Vollmer Kettenbech system for 70000 cash. The agreement dismisses suits and abeyances pending signing, with future improvement funds debated, including whether to seek additional bond issues.

Navy recruiting station opens in city and enlists youths

Fred Josephson chief master at arms of the United States Navy visited the city to arrange a recruiting station. A March 5 meeting at city hall will examine recruits for apprentices aged 15 to 17 with four year terms and staged promotions up to sea service. Non-commissioned officers can join as master at arms and shipwrights with monthly pay from 25 to 30 dollars.
