Bold jail break sparks manhunt and counter claims

James Gibson and L Wyland escaped the county jail about 3 pm Tuesday after breaking from the corridor window. A girl saw them flee on a horse along east Main street, pursued by a sheriff’s posse. They trailed to the Lapwai road, slept at the Denny place, and likely planned the escape. Wyland faces cattle theft charges. Gibson is charged with assault and has a reservation ties. The pair are to stand trial at the coming district court term. Jurisdiction notes include Boise meeting of county attorneys. Lewiston Mercantile plans capital increase and new 36 by 100 foot addition. Spokane socialists nominate a full city ticket for May election.

Woman drowns in Snake River after demented night

Mrs Frank Rice wanders from Normalhill in a distressed state and ends her life by drowning in Snake River above the river ferry. Col Ouer Vassar takes charge of the body found about 11 am. She had lived in Lewiston and leaves a 12-year-old daughter. Funeral planned for Saturday at 2 pm.
