Piercing of the Simplon tunnel through the Alps was finished at 7 20 this morning after work begun in 1895. Swiss and Italian teams met, bells rang, and cannons fired. The twelve mile tunnel faces eight hazards including 131 degree heat. Track work and a second parallel tunnel will follow for two way traffic. Brakeman Killed In Spokane Freight Accident
Cramer brakeman on Extra No 360 the Spokane freight was killed at North Lapwal this morning while dropping a coal car into the west switch. He was crushed by the car and brake gear, died about an hour later in Spokane. The death ends six months on the division as he left Elsworth Minnesota for a new life in Spokane. His body was sent to Spokane for funeral arrangements.

Judge D M Risdon Dies After Ill Health at 83
Judge D M Risdon died at his Lewiston home on Friday morning after a month of ill health. He owned the property later known as the Risdon tract on Normal Hill and settled here many years ago. A respected citizen and Odd Fellows member, he is survived by his wife, a son, and a daughter. Remains shipped to Eugene Oregon for interment.
