Congressman's Low Profile on Mining and Elections Committees
Idaho Congressman Glenn receives scant recognition in Congress as the minority member on the mining committee and is unlikely to influence legislation. The rivers and harbors panel, crucial for open river projects in the Columbia basin, retains most of its members who visited Lewiston last July, including Burcon, Reeves, Bishop, Acheson, and others, signaling careful open river consideration. Meanwhile, preparations for the Winter Race meeting proceed with Secretary Mount reporting many horses in training and over 25 more expected, totaling at least $6000 in purses and subsidies to horsemen. The three day event runs December 26 to 28 with guaranteed purses.

Physician Shy His Money Decision in Idaho Affecting Counties and Towns
Idaho supreme court rules that individual county commissioners or city council members cannot bind counties or cities with contracts. The case H. A. Castle vs Bannock County involved Castle, a county physician, billing $330.60 for pesthouse care during a smallpox outbreak. $270 was approved in lower courts, but the high court reversed the judgment against the county. The ruling emphasizes that only the board as a body can authorize obligations, not an individual member.
