Lewiston Owyhee Railroad Plans Amid Normal School Reforms

Reorganization details for a Northwest railroad project outline a Lewiston & Owyhee route from Huntington to Lewis ton Idaho or Clarkston Washington. A three-party effort by Iron Dyke Copper, Harriman system, and Ladd Metals aims to build, bond funding, and secure right of way by May 1904 with initial 60 miles to Iron Dyke. Separate notes cover a new training school at the State Normal, with a strengthened program in music drawing and student teaching, registrations opening Aug 20 and classes starting Sept 9. A vast grain crop update reports wheat 60–70 bushels per acre, oats 90–100, barley higher, plus a Lewiston river ferry fire destroying the Silcott residence with extensive property loss.

Idaho Farm Families Own Homes Surpass U S Averages

The twelfth census shows Idaho leads farm families in home ownership, second only to Oklahoma Territory. Eighty nine point six percent of farm families and seventy point one six percent of all Idaho families own homes, compared with forty six point five percent nationwide.

Nez Perce county shoot plans expand to host big tourney

Nez Perce County Sportsman Association upgrades grounds for the second annual tourney to be held November 4 5 and 6 adding five traps bringing total to eight to allow two events simultaneously. J S Jent oversees grading near Snake River south of town. Officials expect the Northwest’s largest shoot with participants from three northwest states Montana and British Columbia and a Grangeville group attendance likely to exceed seventy five shooters. Prizes total 550 added money 50 entry fee and 550 added money with ten events daily on a Sargent system.

Kooskia Tramway Progress and Lewiston Queen Contest

The Kooskia tramway towers were bolted and strung along the hillside road awaiting cables. Clearwater Grain Company’s warehouse at the hilltop measures 200 by 50 feet. The Kettenbach warehouse moved to the tramway foot due to train downtime. Ladies of the Maccabees organize a Lewiston hive. 25 charter members formed with meetings at 448 Ninth Street and Masonic Hall. Labor unions plan to nominate a queen for Spokane carnival, with committee members from Carpenters, Painters, and American Labor unions, and polling places in Owl drug store, Dent & Roller’s, Pring Candy, Blue Front, plus a Clarkston location. Esther Kemp and Bernice Morey named by painters and carpenters respectively. The race is set to be competitive.

County Superintendent Visits Schools Across County

Miss Bernice McCoy county superintendent returned Saturday from a tour of county schools. She notes rising interest in bonds and new school buildings and plans for consolidation near Melrose and Woodside. District 20 Forest taught by J R Hinton, District 60 Woodside by Miss Ross Bogan, District 54 Woodside by Miss Ona Morgan, District 75 near Woodside by Miss Stella Coleson. District 64 near Melrose held a meeting on bonds for new buildings. Summer schools are progressing well despite heat.

Blood Poison in Arm Threatens Limb

Harry Hartford suffered a blood infection after scratching his thumb then washing a wound. The condition spread to his arm but Dr. Moxley and careful treatment controlled the poison. Hartford shows marked improvement after medical care.

Hogs for Seattle Market Load Four Cars From Nezperce

K G Osterout and D Frink sent four car loads of hogs to Lewiston daily from Nezperce. Mr Pri left this morning with the bunch for Seattle. Mr Osterout returned this afternoon to his prairie home.
