District Court Opens with Beach and Vollmer Case Trial

The district court began with the First National Bank against R. C. Beach over a porch removal at the Vollmer building in Lewiston in 1902. Damages sought total 9 000, with eloquent legal teams and a jury list formed for the docket. other cases and continuances followed as the term progresses.

Thomas J Denny Dies in Lewiston at 75

Thomas J. Denny died yesterday at his brother John Denny’s Lewiston home at age 75. He was a pioneer of the northwest and arrived in Lewiston about a month ago from Baker City Oregon. The funeral is set for tomorrow at 2 PM. Senator Fred T Dubois and C E Arney plan to attend from Spokane. A Saturday conference between Senator Dubois and California party interests in the Waha country is expected to yield a brighter path for a major business development in the region.

Westlake man returns from Portland then hopeful on wife

J M Hickethier of Westlake returns from Portland where his wife was taken for cancer treatment. Surgeons found the cancer too advanced for operation and X ray therapy began. After weeks of treatment, the cancer growth has been checked and the wife is improving daily. Mr Hickethier remains confident she will be cured.

Must Answer Burglary Charge

George Campbell and Charles Parrish faced a preliminary burglary trial before Judge Reese last Saturday. Campbell and Parrish are accused of stealing about 600 pounds of hams and bacon from two smoke houses in Spalding and later disposing of the meat to Lewiston merchants. Both were held under $1500 bonds. Parrish waived examination and Campbell gave bonds. They were to be arraigned and tried at this term of court.

Fletcher Hardware Sold to Muskegon Firm Ninneman Bros

Geo W Fletcher sold the Fletcher Hardware Co stock and business yesterday to Ninneman Bros of Muskegon Michigan. The new firm consists of A C and W G Ninneman with an invoicing underway and the clerical force mostly unchanged. Fred Rolce stays on and T F Donovan of Portland is to join. Fletcher will assist in invoicing and settling accounts. Q A Kjos returns from an eastern trip. Mrs Kjos remains in New York and will not return to Lewiston until fall.

Appointed Revenue Collector Fred White to head Idaho north

Fred White has been named United States revenue collector for Idaho's northern counties and will begin May 1. He succeeds F. J. Whalley of Moscow, who moves to the southern district with headquarters at Moscow. White, a former Idaho County representative, plans to base his operations in Lewiston.

Farren to be sent East after probate ruling

Aurelia Farren was adjudged insane in probate court. The will was not sent to Blackfoot asylum. instead her husband will be cared for by his sons. Telegram from Phil Farren of Columbia City Indiana says he will reach Lewiston tomorrow and take his father east likely to a private sanitarium. Farren Bros. operate a successful tailoring business in Columbia City as influential citizens.
