Albert Harrington pleads guilty to assault with a deadly weapon and faces a one year term after prior trial ended with a hung jury. The report also notes land openings across townships, squatters’ rights, and a new lumber mill owner moving to Lewiston with plans to expand operations and introduce improvements.
United States District Attorney Cozier, passing through on the way to Pocatello for court, notes cold weather in Latah but a bright seasonal outlook. He reports many immigrants arriving, including a recent party of 104 from North Carolina, with locals already noting the influx. He quips that the newcomers are all Republicans and fighting Republicans at that.
The Normal baseball club leaves Friday for Pullman to face W A C in the afternoon, then returns to Moscow Saturday to play the University. Nearby Forest indicates logging nearing completion with Ed Hawley holding about 800,000 feet and plan to saw from May 1, while Ed Feehay’s Mill Creek mill has close to a million feet prepared for the summer run.
An attempt to buy 23 acres of heirship lands at Kamiah for a townsite is underway since James Stuart’s return from Washington. F F Pomeroy arranged the sale with Blackhawk and one sister signing, while the other heir seeks Stuart’s counsel. The plan hinges on acquiring a Wowasite so a town can be built, though improvements are minimal and land remains on three year leases.
