Beet Crop Prospects Improve With Thinning and Care
Last week I inspected beet crops in Utah and Salt Lake counties and Hund. Prospects for high tonnage look better than ever as 90 percent of beets are near perfect. Plants are thinned and thrifty with minimal blight and pests this season. The sugar company destroyed diseased mother beets to protect seed. Farmers are commended for timely work, as poor thinning can cost several tons per acre. Visitors from Germany noted Utah's beet status as top world quality. Geo. Austin, Agr. Supt.

Beet Crop in Alley Sees Rain Benefit and Growth
Manager Goetz says recent showers have benefited beet crops and overall prospects are good. Germination is strong, neglect and weeds threaten losses, and planned area guarantees factory operations. Russia leads in surface planted while Germany yields far more sugar per hectare due to climate and labor practices. A town scuffle ended with minor facial injuries and a payment to the city fund.
