Kirksville Missouri suffered a devastating cyclone late Thursday causing about fifty dead and nearly a thousand injured. Four hundred buildings were leveled as fires broke out and rescuers faced darkness and heavy rain delaying relief efforts.
Reports from Apia dated April 18 describe a battle at Vailelo between friendly natives and rebels in Samoa with about 100 killed or wounded. U S cruiser Philadelphia officers Ensign J. Monaghan and Lt. F W. Lansdale were killed. Monaghan was beheaded after wounding.
Washington reports General Otis telegraphs war department that peace negotiations with Aguinaldo are active. Aguinaldo is said to be convinced he cannot maintain force and ready to sue for peace on complete pardon and concessions toward self government.
The steamer Australia arrives from Honolulu with engineer corps who have served there nine months. Companies K to Denver, L to San Francisco, M to Portland, and K to Salt Lake will muster out on May 6. In Santa Fe mortgages worth 871,724,000 and 817,000,000 are filed by the Santa Fe Topeka and Atchison, plus a deed transferring the New Mexico and Southern Juclie railway to the line.

Casualties include six killed and twenty-eight wounded, led by the First South Dakota regiment, as American troops ford the Bagbag River and press toward the town before withdrawing for the night.

In Galena Kansas on a Tuesday a mob of masked men attacked a jail and forcibly executed a Black man named Williams. They used an ax rope and pistol and dragged him into a barn where he was killed after refusing to testify. The event appears to be extrajudicial violence by a racist mob.
Fragmentary report recalls a perilous crossing near Mile Fifty on the Victoria river route with claims of treasure and hardship. It mentions a deadly blast or explosion, debris, and numerous injuries and losses, including a large money value cited as over 100000 dollars.

In Palmetto area on April 25 Sam Hoae a colored man accused of killing farmer Alfred Crawford and assaulting his wife was burned at the stake by a mob of about 200. Hoae reportedly confessed to killing Crawford for $12 paid by Lige Strickland a local preacher while the mob threatened further vengeance amid calls for troops to maintain order.
From Washington April 15 dispatches report four batteries of infantry and four artillery pieces engaged at Quingua six miles northeast of Malabao. Casualties were severe with Colonel Stotsenberg and Lt Seasloga killed. later figures list officers and enlisted wounded from Nebraska Utah and other units. Dewey remains unsure of the Yorktown party’s fate near Baler.
General Brooke reports typhoid fever outbreak at Puerto Principe camp has improved with fewer cases. Eighth Cavalry notes ongoing cases though most are convalescent and hospital capacity is strained. Telegraph inquiry seeks more details on the cause and control measures.
