A compendium of local items notes court adjournment, Fourth of July plans in Zionsville, and a sluggish court-house mood. crops and livestock prospects rise, including wheat, potatoes, and grazing in the commons. New signs for J A Wilson & Son rise, while Wilson & Lanham’s buggy repository passes to the Sheriff. Community events include lectures, fairs, and temperance talks, with hotel upgrades and small business changes.
At the Winnebago Tribe No. 36 I C R M meeting last night the chiefs elected were Sachem W A Miller Senior Sagamore C N Kellogg Junior Sagamore William Crane Chief of Records W O Darnall Keeper of Wampum Ed Kellogg Prophet T W Lockhart Representative to Great Council Ben F McKey.
Mrs. McNiel attacked Mrs. Clampitt with a billet after taunts near the McNiel residence following a long feud over Mr. McNiel. Clampitt injured but not seriously. Nearby reports mention Afr. W. C. DePauw’s gift to establish a new Indiana literary institution with trustees pushing an August end date.
The annual stockholders meeting in Cleveland Indiana elects all twelve directors for the coming year. Eli Marvin is re elected president with J H Rice as vice president and Jesse B Marvin as secretary. Directors include James H Rice Jesse B Marvin A A Thomas E P Baker and others. The new management expresses confidence in the road amid opposition.
Preparations are complete for Lebanon's July 4 celebration with a parade along Indianapolis avenue to Main then to the fair grounds for dinner. The afternoon features old settlers’ meeting, oration, music, races, and a public ball at Opera Hall to fund a fire alarm bell. Police and parade logistics are arranged, with lodges to report to the Mayor’s office for assignments.
On complaint of William Birch five city youths faced Mayor Pierce last Monday for bathing under the railroad bridge near the saw mill. Billy Bechtell Charley Beasley Gorman and Sammy Nealis were fined and cost about $15 each. Bud Smith was released as too young to prosecute. Medium sized hats or bonnets are more worn than very large or very small ones.
