Death of W H Strickler Shocks Local Community
William H Strickler of Park Place and Chestnut Street died suddenly at his home around noon today after an indigestion attack. Barn Raising At Haak Farm Attracts Wide Local Help Near Myerstown
More than 150 people gathered Wednesday at the Henry Haak farm east of Myerstown for a barn raising. Neighbors and distant visitors assisted tenant Thomas Mase and a line of skilled workers including contractor Guy Hank and foreman Henry Yingst. The 100 by 46 foot structure progressed rapidly as timber was prepared and hoisted, with contributions from railroad superintendent John Wintersteen, master mechanic Jack, Bill Weirich, William M Haak, Harry F P Negley, and Rh. J. Boyer among others. A community dinner followed at 12:30, and medals were awarded for service. The day closed with a celebratory mood and reflections on the cooperative effort.
