A workman's torch left unattended sparked a blaze Friday night, triggering smoke and flames that required firefighting crews to control the fire. Investigators checked the scene for hotspots and determined the torch caused the incident. No injuries were reported.
Engineer Andrew Lape discovered the boiler room ablaze and blew the big whistle to raise alarm. The fire threatened the plant, with only Chief Hartman and Gantz narrowly escaping as flames gutted the interior. Fire crews diverted chemical streams. water was unavailable, and the blaze damaged adjacent tents and street lighting.
About one hundred jolly farmers from Swatara and nearby towns gathered at Haymakers on July 11 for the annual event. Officers were elected with Nate G. Pettys as past chief, M. W. Spangler as chief haymaker, Grant W. Fasnacht as assistant chief, and Kiviser as collector of straws. Tribesmen learned to make hay by gas light during the gathering.
Mrs Tobias Reinoehl of Spruce Street received a morning letter from her brother in law Augusts Weineehl who lives in Landdon DC. He is in good health and plans to visit relatives in Pennsylvania soon. William A L Smith, son of Levi A Smith, re enlisted in the regimental infantry. He formerly served as a householder with Company 1, 5th Infantry and saw action in the Philippines. He had prior furlough before resuming duty at Phantstarry, N Y.
Mrs Elmer Kline and daughter Martha with Miss Tacey Mutch of Spruce street accompanied Mr Kline a Perse band member to Harrisburg and back home delighted by the Reservoir park concert crowded in the afternoon and evening Our band has a world wide reputation and is regarded equal to or superior to many in the state Prof John Stanley father of Richard and Mark Stanley long ago deceased was among the readers and an excellent musician
John H. Leslie, cornet soloist for the Perseverance band, bought a B-flat cornet from Carl Fischer of New York. The instrument, made by Beson & Co. of London, is a prototype with gold mountings and elaborate engraving. Purchase arranged through Prof. John Bowman of this city.

Druggist Elias Mader treated the injury at the scene. Mr and Mrs John Shenk of Illinois left the city this morning on the 8 30 train returning home after a several weeks visit.
Workmen remodeling the Kleinfeltersville hotel uncovered a nearly complete skeleton of a child, wrapped in a red petticoat and missing only its head. Found high between ceiling and rafters, it sparked a townwide mystery with no recalled missing child matching the remains. Doctors in Berks County will assess the age and timing of the concealment as locals ponder a mystery dating back generations.

General orders issued from National Guard of Pennsylvania headquarters detail the annual division encampment inspection at Gettysburg from July 12 to July 19. The Third brigade is scheduled for July 15 starting at 7 a m, with regiments reporting for inspection at two hour intervals.

Mrs Auntie of New York will place a Gothic memorial window in St Luke's Episcopal Church for her parents the late Mr and Mrs William Coleman long time Cornwall residents. Charles A. Moore a Spruce street fruit dealer and district deputy of the Knights of Pythias will install Acme lodge No 427 officers on Wednesday evening. He will also install Newmanstown officers next week and lodge officers at Myerstown and Annville later in July. In August he attends the grand lodge meeting in Sunbury. Abner Hartman will represent Acme lodge at the state meeting.

Clarence Detweiler faced a revolver at 553 Green Street as three men robbed the Hanley boarding house. Six suspects, including Rogers, Roberts, and Hogan, were arrested and jailed. A stolen Anton Rogers watch was recovered. the raiders also entered William Lenich’s coal yard office, taking a counterfeit half dollar. Police link the two crimes as the same gang.
Harry E. Beck of Steelton married Kathryn M. Emoyer at the bride’s hometown home in Oberlin. Rev. J A Keiper officiated. Beck works in the Pennsylvania Steel Company’s bridge and construction division. The couple stay in the city at 525 Walnut Street with the groom’s relatives as they begin their honeymoon.

Police officers Brown and Potterger on their way home from city hall found a large pile of rubbish burning in the yard of Amos S. Adams at 1037 Lehman Street Saturday night. They extinguished the blaze without difficulty.
A public installation of the officers of the four castles of the Knights of the Mystic Chain of Lebanon county will be held Tuesday evening July 8 in the church at West Lebanon. District Deputy William Snavely will perform the ceremonies and a fine program is planned with prominent order members from Philadelphia and other cities expected.
Harry Ilgenfritz of this city, formerly a clerk at the Miller organ company music store on Cumberland street, recently visited his parents at 711 Guilford street. Now employed by a large piano factory in New York City, he arrived Saturday and will perform with the Amphion mandolin orchestra during his stay, filling several engagements.
