Lebanon voters face a special election tomorrow to decide on a $700000 loan for the Lebanon School District. Polls open 7 AM to 7 PM with identification required, one mark per voter, and a full election board. Widespread interest crosses occupations as residents anticipate the outcome.
Gordon Light of 1404 Oak Street travels to Detroit Michigan to defend his international Wakefield contest crown at the national championship meet. He brings three promising planes as British and American entrants compete in elimination rounds ahead of finals on July 1. The event runs June 29 to July 3, sponsored by the Detroit Times and the Chamber of Commerce and sanctioned by the National Aeronautic Association.
G K Warren Rapp and R Ralph Rapp of the Rapp Construction Co traveled from Second and Cumberland and Fourth and Chestnut Streets to Philadelphia for the Williamson Trade School alumni reunion. They met former classmates while there. Joseph Closinak of Lebanon R D 1 was treated at Good Samaritan Hospital Saturday for lacerations of the left ear after being struck with a bottle.
David Long was re elected quartermaster of the Pennsylvania Department VFW at Altoona during the convention closing session. The Girls Drum Corps won 150 dollars for a noncompetitive exhibition drill and concert, led by Evelyn Gerlach, with 28 members aged 10 to 16. The department endorsed neutrality in foreign entanglements and pursued anti dictatorship stances while Philip A. Burker won state commander.
Lancaster PA today reports both city hospitals ordered extra supplies of tetanus antitoxin to treat burns from fireworks as Independence Day preparations intensify.
Washington the day after Zioncheck a Washington state representative who escaped a Towson Maryland sanitarium was rumored to be in his capitol office. A warrant for his arrest was issued by District Attorney Leslie Garnett based on a complaint by Mrs Benjamin Scott Young over injuries during a sublet dispute.
Mt Gretna June 29 Crowds averaging 1200 attended the summer assembly of the 1st Pennsylvanian Conference United Brethren church. Eight hundred eighty six registrations mark a record over all prior years with Friday's program including Lebanon Valley College devotions violin solos and greetings for Dr Clyde A Lynch and the college.
Mr and Mrs Harry Cake and son Merritt departed at seven this morning for a week long vacation through New York State Canada and the northern midwest. They plan stops at Niagara Falls Toronto the Great Lakes district and return via Detroit Cleveland and Pittsburgh. Mr Cake is steward at the William Bollman Post American Legion.
G R Dechert an officer of the Lebanon County Christian Endeavor Union led the jail service conducted by the Lebanon County C E Union on Sunday. Charles Kreitz read the scripture lesson and offered prayer. Russell Gingrich delivered the message.
Washington today reports Pennsylvania payments under the Social Security Act from February 1 to June 30 totaling $68,811. The Labor Department notes $62,371 for maternal and child health services and $5,440 for child welfare. Payments for crippled children under the Special Security program had not yet been authorized at that time.
The Hill Reformed Sunday school will hold its annual picnic on Saturday evening July 18 in the grove beside the church. The Blue Stone Ramblers of Lancaster have been engaged to provide entertainment for the occasion.
Mr and Mrs Peter Rudegeair Jr and daughter Shirley Jean of Cornwall with Mrs Rude Bear s parents Mr and Mrs Charles Harkins of Lebanon drove to Chester Sunday to visit Dr and Mrs Kenneth J Crothers and Mrs Crothers the daughter of the Harkins. They travelled by motor.
The Philadelphia crowd at the national convention hailed George H. Earle as a rising Democrat with potential for the U S Senate in 1938. Delegates, noting his eastern Pennsylvania base, discussed a possible Earle Margiotti ticket while avoiding current talks on distant 1933 prospects as Governor and party ties loom large.
County Detective George T. Tucker arrested 41 year old Robert L. Clauser of Kleinfeltersville on two serious counts. He allegedly violated marriage vows and faced a statutory offense involving Mary S. Gibble, a girl under fourteen. The offenses relate to Clauser’s poultry farm Clauser's Hatchery between Kleinfeltersville and Schaefferstown. Bail set at 500 for minor charge and 1000 for statutory charge. Clauser posted 15000 cash and was released for a hearing before Alderman Sandel.
The six member relief aid panel of three Republicans and three Democrats moved to unlock the legislature’s purse for needy and jobless. Observers expect a joint meeting of finance groups to yield tax needs guiding adjournment while Brancato’s mothers assistance bill advances for federal conformity.
Former State Senator William Freeman of Cornwall was unharmed when his automobile collided with Ruswell C. Allwein’s car at Sixth and Walnut Streets. Police report says Allwein traveled on Walnut while Freeman’s vehicle moved north on Sixth.
A woman named Mi Lorience Thompson Castle, 26, was murdered in a near north side hotel room by a large Black assailant. The killer looted her purse and scrawled Black Legion and a skull on the mirror before fleeing down a fire escape. Her son James Castle, age unspecified, witnessed parts of the attack and alerted hotel staff. police found the victim in a nightgown with brick fragments nearby.
Isabel Black daughter of Mr and Mrs William Black and Robert L Riley son of Mr and Mrs Clarence Riley wed at Fourth Street Presbyterian Church Saturday at 2 pm Rev J Leonard Hynson officiated. Local and out of town guests from New Jersey New York Ohio Arkansas and Philadelphia attended.
