Fire Destroyed Noggle Garage at Rexmont

Lightning set the two story Noggle garage at Rexmont ablaze Sunday at 8 30 p m. The loss exceeded 1500 dollars per William Noggle. Four autos and two trucks were stored inside but were saved by Rexmont firemen including a Haynes sedan a Willys Knight sedan and an International delivery truck. The Rexmont fire truck aided the effort and two other resident vehicles were removed. Fire department chemicals linger on page two.

Diplomat and Mrs Coleman Married in Philadelphia Ceremony

Mrs Churchill Coleman daughter of B Dawson Coleman of 2202 DeLancey Place Philadelphia wed Leland Harrison assistant secretary of state of Washington D C. The ceremony occurred at 12 30 A M Saturday at the home of the bride’s brother G Dawson Coleman Bren Ma w in the presence of immediate families. The bride wore an orange and blue printed crepe gown.

Lightning Kills Three Cows and Calf Near Fontana

Alfred Gingrich, a young farmer near Fontana, lost three cows and a calf in a Saturday evening electrical storm. The cattle, after milking, were in pasture near a wire fence when lightning struck the fence and followed it to the herd. The cows collapsed in a heap. neighbors and Mr. Gingrich found them dead, casting sympathy toward him as he just began ring business this spring.

Auto Trip Through New England States and Canada Planned

Mr and Mrs Earl Reber of Gheetnut street and Miss Alma Hohl of Philadelphia visited Mt. Carmel to see the Wintera family. The party returned home Sunday and will begin a two week extended trip through New England and Canada.

Family moves from Columbia to Lebanon

Felty and family of Columbia Pennsylvania moved to Lebanon this morning. He has been employed for some time by Paul Brohier the local brick contractor and will continue in the same work. Harvey Eck had charge of agriculture.

Rehrersburg Community Fire Hall Dedication Parade

Ag ness S Tryon led as Chief Marshal with aides as Berks and Lebanon firemen marched along Main Street Rehrersburg for the dedication of a two story fire hall. Wyomissing Newmans town Womelsdorf bands and Ahrens Fox engine parade through town followed by decorative ante from Womelsdorf Penn Highway Greenhouser four young ladies distributing flowers and blotters. Stouchsbury Bernville Schartelaville and Ori ental Drum Corps plus Good Will Fire Company Myerstown provided apparatus and music amid cheering crowds.

Frank Fox Fatally Injured in Auto Accident Near Myerstown

Frank Fox a 44 year old butcher from Hamburg Berks county died at Good Samaritan Hospital after a Sunday evening wreck on the Penn Highway west of Myerstown. His wife Mae and Elmer Miller and his wife were injured as their car rolled over on a very wet road after starting home in heavy rain. Fox abdomen and ribs were punctured and broken. Miller suffered several fractured ribs. the women received cuts and bruises. Doctors treated all at the hospital after responders rushed to the scene.

Mrs Elizabeth Light Dies at 85 in Lebanon County

Mrs Elizabeth Light widow of Rev Joel Light died at 5 35 this morning at her home First and Mifflin streets Lebanon county born in North Lebanon township spent life here with husband a local minister She would have turned 85 this Thursday if she had lived further a short obituary noting her years of church and community service and wide esteem.

Electric wire burn injures Lawn man after storm

Miles Peffley aged 20 of Lawn touched a charged electric wire blown down in Saturday night’s storm and burned the palm and fingers of his right hand. He was treated Sunday at Good Samaritan Hospital by Dr. Horace Means. The report also notes visitors from Gettysburg enjoying a weekend with local residents and expressing interest in Lebanon news.

Stolen Cigar Load At Womelsdorf Garage

Thieves broke into the Horn garage at Womelsdorf on Friday night and carried away auto accessories and tires valued at 1000 dollars and a truck belonging to Chas Pefffar of Stouchsburg. Also 1700 MacMillan 10 cent cigars from the shop. Police are investigating.

Miss Maggie and Grace Gerberich, daughters of the late Dr. M. R. Gerberich, of this city, have sailed aboard the Cunard liner California with the University Travel Study Club. The party plans a grand European tour visiting the British Isles, France, Belgium, and other countries.

California Earthquake Claims Twenty Seven Lives

Special to News by United Press reports a violent southern California quake causing massive property damage and endangering hundreds. Unconfirmed word from Southern Pacific says twenty seven killed at Santa Barbara where the city is two feet under water after Gibraltar dam collapsed. Cabrillo and Arlington hotels in ruins, communications and rail disrupted, water scarce.

Flag Raising at Sand Hill Playgrounds

Milford Arnold George Weaver and five light ex service men who fought overseas will raise the American flag Thursday evening July 2 at the Sand Hill playgrounds under the Sand Hill Playground Association. Supreme Court allows Meadville Theological School to keep a Chicago, Illinois campus while upholding a Crawford county injunction that had ordered the Chicago operation halted. Trustees may administer the trust under Pennsylvania law with the Illinois institution retained as a western campus.

A long standing paving controversy in Lebanon resurfaces as officials debate maintenance of wood block streets. The plan would tear out sections on Cumberland Street and Eighth to replace with crushed stone and bituminous material. Drowned crew of Gloucester schooner after fog collision with Tuscania

Twenty four sailors aboard the Gloucester fishing schooner Rex were cut to fourteen dead when the 102 foot vessel collided with the New York bound steamer Tuscania in dense fog hundreds of miles off Cap Race. The Tuscania aided in rescue and recovery as survivors were taken aboard, including Captain Thomas C. Downey of Lowell and cook Austin Firth’s son Charles. The dead included several Gloucester men and one Shelburne resident, with an unidentified sailor among the casualties.

Damage From Weekend Storms Strikes Region

Severe thunder and lightning Saturdays and Sundays caused widespread damage and outages. Allentown report: Edwin Wallstach, three, of Lanark, grew tired during berry hunt Saturday afternoon and slept beneath a clump of bushes. His pursuers searched all night and found him about ten o clock Sunday morning, hungry and sore but otherwise fine.

Lightning Strikes First Church at Second and Winter Street

A Sunday night lightning strike damaged the northeast corner of the First Church tower at Second and Winter Street. Milas Rachel of 128 Locust Street was meeting of the Baptist People’s Union nearby when the bolt splintered the corner post and scattered timber and glass. Bethlehem Mines team wins first in Lebanon finals

Bethlehem Mines team representing all Lebai county plants of the Bethlehem Stack Company won first place Saturday in the general national competition of Bethlehem Corporations at Island Park Harrisburg. The Mines team, previously winning first in the elimination contest at Third and Foet streets, earned the right to represent Lebanon finals.
