Mrs. John Frantz of Sixth and Locust streets stepped on a nail lodged through a pail in front of Erb and Cranmer's store on Cumberland Street. The heirs of John George Spang convened in Reading to raise funds for pursuing a German fortune claim believed to remain from their ancestor. They planned to send two agents, Kalbach and Henry Gerhart, but donations have been slow. the conference aimed to renew efforts and secured some funds. Kalbach read letters from German parties confirming the fortune’s existence but noting substantial work to establish the American heirs’ claim.

The Pennsylvania Democratic state convention at Park Opera House nominated Robert E Pattison for governor with 22 344 votes while James Kerr and George W Guthrie won other key posts. George W Guthrie was unanimously chosen for lieutenant governor and James Nolan was acclaimed secretary of internal affairs. Philadelphia delegates clashed over representation as debates highlighted party unity and past election results. Pattison, born 1850 in Maryland, rose from Philadelphia lawyer to governor after earlier roles as city controller and rising Democratic figure.
The passage notes Pattison retired in 1887 and, in 1888, President Cleveland appointed him to investigate Union Pacific affairs as a commissioner. After successful completion he returned to Philadelphia, becoming president of the Chestnut Street National Bank and Trust Company. At the July 1890 Democratic state convention he was nominated for governor and defeated Republican George W. Delamater by over 16,000.
James Sineck president of the Liberty fire company Benjamin Beecher and Ed Riegert went to Mt Gretna this morning to cut a 60 foot flag pole for the company. The resort has many tall trees and they expect no difficulty securing the pole.
J Taylor Boyd resigns after over thirty years as superintendent of the Cornwall Ore Banks Company and is elected treasurer. He will move to the city, occupy a house in Hathaway Park, and continue to serve the company in a businesslike manner. The vacancy will be filled by a gentleman from Missouri.
The 1902 convention committee of the Red Men decided to provide a complimentary outing for the ladies fair committee on July 7 at Penryn park. A arrangements committee was formed and the group will travel to Allentown on July 19 for the state playmakers association annual meeting.
Death notices list Mrs Elizabeth Hecker of Pleasant Hill age 64 with children Emma Bordlemay Franklin Mary and Clayton Hecker. Mrs Philip Miller 73 of Fredericksburg with husband and several children and church ties. Mrs Elizabeth Shaeffer 74 at county almshouse with son George Shaeffer to be buried at Mt Lebanon. Reuben H Kramer 52 of Reading after one week illness, formerly of Packerack mill, survived by wife Agnes four children and siblings, active in several local groups.

Veterinarian P Harvey Seltzer chloroformed the old Irish setter owned by contractor John H Cilley on Tuesday. Once famed as the best field dog in the area, the aging animal was euthanized to end its misery. George S Reinoehl of Lancaster, visiting, will return home tomorrow.
The Gloninger estate at Eighteenth and Center streets finishes first story walls and lays upper joists while carpenters and bricklayers start on twelve brick houses. The knitting factory at Mifflin street and Second avenue has the foundation walls up and work progresses rapidly. Numerous other improvements keep construction active citywide.
The weekly weather bureau crop report for the week ending June 23 notes cool conditions east of the Rockies with frost in central and northern Rocky Mountain districts and parts of the Dakotas Minnesota Iowa and New York. At Reading, Magistrate Kirschmann hears Richard Wehninger charged with inducing Lizzie Kraemer a 15 year old to join the Wild Sapho act. Kraemer testified paying ten cents to view the captive performer chained in a pit. the girl says she acted for $15 a week while her mother knew. The girl was committed to jail awaiting reform school placement. show manager case held under advisement.
Miss Helen M Kremer eldest daughter of Dr and Mrs E P Kremer of Tenth and Chestnut Streets Newark privately married E W Woodruff at 3 pm in Newark. They depart for Newport on a wedding tour and will reside at No 345 Clinton Avenue Newark. Woodruff belongs to a prominent Newark family and serves as auditor for the Marine Engine and Machine Company.
Mary Plantz eight years old daughter of William Plantz who was killed at Altoona. Found at Seventh and Lehman streets by John Speicher and sent home to Cornwall by Sergeant Brown. She had run away multiple times, barefooted, and was located on North Eleventh Street at Mr Keevans after a lengthy chase with Mr Devanney.
On Wednesday at 8 o'clock a wedding was held at 139 West Tenth street Erie uniting Miss Emma Henrietta Felsemaker and Dr. David V Reinoehl. The groom, a former Lebanon resident, practiced in Erie and was attended by Robert Bruce. Local attendees included Sela Reinoehl, sister of the groom.
