A Friday picnic at the Fairland grove hosted by Mrs. Cuaries J Weirick and chaperoned by Mr Cuarles D Weirick drew many city boys and girls. The group rode a trolley to Cleona and walked ten blocks then spent the day playing outdoor games and enjoying refreshments amid pleasant weather.
A Saturday excursion to Philadelphia’s Zoological Garden via P R railway drew many riders at 7 04 pm with special return service. Names of attendees noted, while a ten day bicycle trip from 59 North Twelfth Street aims to pass Bloomsburg Catawissa and Danville visiting relatives. A two year old girl suffered facial wounds from a rat attack in Columbia, prompting medical concern. City papers largely silent on Lebanon sesqui centennial plans with one exception urging a grand demonstration. Ira Gerberich resigns as Altender ferr baggage transfer driver, effective July 8 after fifteen years in the business. Good Shepherd Home marks fifth anniversary with a large turnout and luncheon. Prof Alexander Landis, owner of vaccine farm at Marietta, bought the Conewago property with its buildings, mule barn, and mansion. District Attorney Rothermel moves to bring about 50 husbands who deserted their wives and children to account for court ordered sums and arrears now that employment is plentiful. About 300 husbands sentenced in the desertion case face new caps and wage garnishments as they resume payments. Aaron Dissinger proprietor of the East End hotel displays a six pound strange animal caught near Rexmont. It has black feet fur tail and hair like a squirrel, eats corn and oats and is very cross. It escaped confinement and is now on exhibit at the hotel drawing local curiosity.
Prof R O Schiedt of Franklin College warns that the scale insect infestation is widespread in Lancaster county affecting peach plum apple quince and cherry trees. It resembles a small blackberry on young twigs and requires kerosene emulsion spray now and again in winter and March to control.
Boyer, about 32, of Light farm in North Lebanon, was kicked in the face at Mr. Light’s stable while attempting to break a colt. The blow cut two large gashes on the face, split the upper lip, and cut his tongue. He received other bruises. Dr. George Fisher of Guilford Street treated him with multiple stitches. Boyer is recovering and feeling better today.

A lively Thursday evening program by Lebanon Valley Cab No 6 of the A O E R of M CO drew a large crowd. Milton H Blouch presented a gramophone concert and Fir Knightas delivered cheerful remarks to close the entertainment event.
Samual Gaszert, a baker, and a friend wrestled Friday evening when he fell at a building on East Cumberland Street suffering severe head injuries. He was unconscious for a time and treated by Dr. B. D. Bucher of Cumberland Street. Witness Mollinger’s Execution noted as Sheriff Overholzer and Deputy Light received an invitation from Sheriff Charles Zailera of Herrsburg to the Thursday execution of Hollinger, the wife of an orderer.
Gondman a seven year old driven for Gay Wilkes bought for 240 dollars by Liveryman Mosee Bittner at McFarlan’s horse sale in Philadelphia. Report says horse named Speedy will be used for driving purposes. Judge Pershing Resigns from county post effective August 5 after years of illness.
Second ward councilman Tevi Hartz riding a bicycle on Walnut near Spring was seriously injured when a runaway team from Geo Krause & Co. struck him. The wagon crashed into houses and a street, vehicles damaged, and Hartz, identified as the CO L railroad engineer, sustained multiple injuries requiring hospital care and medical evaluation.
Rev. H K Benson, a Franklin and Marshall graduate, preached his first sermon at Avon U B Church on Sunday evening. His text Be not overcome of evil but overcome evil with good contrasted passive and active Christian life and showed how the active life develops and rewards, with praise for his clear radical thinking and strong language. He plans further theological study before entering ministry and received warm support from the Avon congregation.
John Krug and Augustus Ebereole ages 18 and 16 from Lebanon claim residence there. They were found in a Reading company freight car at Lebanon Valley yards after seal was broken. They say two colored men forced entry, then conductor halted the theft. Warrants expected in Reading Times report. names may be fictitious.

The body of Mrs Henry L Hartman nee Kathrine Schropp was laid to rest at Mt Lebanon cemetery after last rites at her home 1019 Lehman street conducted by Rev J H Baker of Trinity Lutheran. A severe thunder storm struck Creona on Saturday evening as Allen Hesey's residence, occupied by Geo Hitz, suffered roof slate breakage and gable end damage. A live wire burned along a warding to the table but caused no serious harm. Damages totaled 100 dollars and were fully insured in a Lancaster company.
