Local fear grows as rail and mine shutdowns bite. Reading Company car shortages threaten Friday operations while 1,000 miners in No 9 district face layoff. Officials say relief hinges on this afternoon’s car moves and renewed deliveries.
United States labor board has reached on efforts to force wage increases for 2,000,000 railroad workers seeking about 1,000,000 dollars annually. The unions will meet to oppose any recognition of outlaw lines and may vote among members on the issue. An announcement is expected early next week.
Stanton June 24 Phil Murray, head of the mine workers, opened by declaring that coal and other profiteers are robbing the public and trying to load the guilt of their crimes on innocent labor representatives who seek only that union members receive a wage increase.
Reguire Pa June 24 J H Dermuth a retired farmer and his wife of Landingville drove their automobile onto a railroad crossing. An approaching train struck the car, propelling Edna the oldest from the running board to her death. The two sons were seriously injured and remain in a local hospital in critical condition.
Town, Pa June 24 1820 Scouts announce a meeting tonight then next Monday at Albright Field to welcome Akron Scouts arriving for an arc camping trip. About 260 boys and a 46 piece band will be present before the group proceeds to Philadelphia. lunch will be taken on site. all are invited to view the event.
Fire at the Trinity Foundry on Third and Green streets caused by mold flasks bursting into flames. Flames were checked by multiple fire units after a still alarm triggered by the night watch. Fire was not extensive and caused little damage to the Iron City Foundry Company plant.

Senator R. Lants has called a meeting of the Grand Army in their rooms at the Lantz Building on North Highth Street. Matters concerning the Memorial Day observance will be discussed. There is a strong expectation of good attendance.
