Saturday markets offered a vibrant display of crisp vegetables and lush produce. Shoppers noted bright peppers, tomatoes, and leafy greens alongside seasonal favorites. Vendors reported steady demand as fresh offerings drew steady crowds.
Market notes describe a crowded scene with abundant greens and berries. Eggs at 2 to 17 cents a dozen, butter 26 ½ cents per pound, and poultry prices rising with two cents added per pound for old fowls. Strawberries and cherries appear, raspberries at 12 cents a pint, and lamb scarce while spring chickens fetch 20 cents per pound.
Dr honey Skinner spoke to the Pennsylvania horticultural society in Philadelphia about the seventeen year locust cicada. He described its distribution from Kansas to Vermont and Canada to Georgia, its biennial brood pattern, and the underground stage lasting seventeen years. He noted eggs hatch in twigs, larvae feed on roots, no surface damage until emergence, and urged careful boarding of emergences as the most effective control though costly.
Gee Windows displays a wide range of seeds at the 15th annual exhibition featuring about 250 farm and vegetable seeds and an equal number of flower seeds. Benjamin B Prveshyre, a miller by trade and long time Lebanon resident, died at 2 o'clock this morning at his home 484 North Eleventh Street after attending Salem United Brethren Church services. He leaves a wife and two sons, Light and Ira Shirk Ruechore, with surviving siblings including Ex-Sheriff Fink Bows here, Fast Hanover, and others in East Hanover and Lebanon. He had worked at Lebanon Stove Works and in a grocery partnership at Fifth and Lehrman Streets.
Twenty years ago an express package from Weimer Machine Works to a Shanghai company held blast furnace drawings. Rose Kellar, Lebanon singer, left for Milton for the Chimes of Normandy. A cellar theft at Jacob Ensminger’s South Annville home took lard, sausages, butter, potatoes, and more.
Major Harry P. Moyer, cashier of the Farmers' National Bank, received a box of the season's first cantaloupes from his brother Maxim Moyer of Fort White, Florida, on Saturday. The fruit marks the initial harvest of the season.
Julius Barbini and his wife and children arrived Saturday after a year away. Formerly running the fruit and confectionery store at Eighth and Cumberland, they are now visiting Cornwall and likely will resume residence in Lebannon.

The June term of argument court presided by Judge Ehrgood heard cases including White and Van Glabn versus Buchanan Foundry. Jacob Iknaz versus Edward Shaeffer. Leisey versus Ohrich. Kline against Berks and Dauphin turnpike. Auditor appointments, adoptions, and capias requests noted. divorce proceedings assigned to commissioners. several defendants ordered to pay weekly sums or subjected to fines. a party in a liquor case fined $150 with $200 in costs.
Bartenders in this city formed a local branch of the Hotel and Restaurant Employees International Alliance and Bartenders League of America at Tobias Ulrich's residence of the Eagle hotel. Officers elected include President Geo. Waltz and vice president Pallas Mast with others named and organizers listed. Guests were entertained at dinner by Mr. Ulrich.
Henry S. Kettering, who died by suicide Thursday, was buried today at the Mennonite Meeting House in North Cornwall township. The funeral from his Annville home was led by Reverends Brubaker and Zimmerman.
William R. Erwin, 17, son of Mr and Mrs Erwin of 1911 Scull Street West Lebanon, is under a physician care after an accidental self inflicted gunshot. He was cleaning a revolver Sunday afternoon when the trigger discharged, the bullet entering the leg near the knee causing severe pain. He received medical attention and is reported as improving.
General Superintendent W. A. Garrett of the P. & R. railway company arrived with several officials this morning to inspect the local station and yards. They called on A. D. Smith, president and superintendent of the C. & L. railroad company.
Jonathan Lutz filed information alleging George Schreckengast took a 35 cent purse from Lisson’s stands. one account says Litz received money at Long’s factory, another says Schreckengast returned it. No arrest yet. warrant under careful investigation. Also, H Ressler charged with assault and battery by Alderman Snyder. County Detective Sattazahn to set bail for hearing.
S. M. Miller of Sixth and Walnut streets has been called back to Capon Furnace West Virginia where he has served as manager for over a year. He praises the south as a fine home and business prospect and notes the cool mornings and evenings amid a mountain valley. He is in good health and enjoys his stay.
Constable Charters of Harrisburg arrested farmer Jacob Walmer in Lickdale on a false pretense charge. He allegedly bought a pair of mules with a note, claimed farm ownership, sold the animals, and did not pay. Walmer came to Harrisburg and consulted attorney J G Adams. settlement expected.
LeRoy Adams Grumbine, son of Lee L. Grumbine esq a student at Oberlin College and Conservatory Ohio, returned to his home for the summer vacation on Saturday evening. He met his father in Pittsburg and they traveled home together.
Arthur Dissinger of 512 Canal Street leaves tomorrow for Philadelphia to enter St Joseph's Hospital. He will pursue a two year nursing course with aim of becoming a trained nurse, after years of service at Harrisburg and Wernersville state insane asylums.
Harrisburgers owning houses at Mr Gretna were alarmed Saturday by reports that several cottages had been entered and ransacked. It turned out that few of the Harrisburg cottagers' properties had been touched.

Sunday morning at 7 30 a trolley struck Snip a poodle belonging to Charles A Moore a trucker and lifelong family pet. The dog aged 16 was blind and known to the Moore household and neighbors as a seypets unable to recover.

Miss Emma Roedel from Fifth and Cumberland streets attended the funeral of Major John J Rebman, formerly of this city, who was killed Friday by a train at McKeesport. He had been a resident here previously.
Cyrus Siegrist today shipped from the Wm. Penn hotel sales stables a car load of Lebanon county horses to W. Bauer's stables in Newark New Jersey.
A nine-piece strikers band from the coal regions has performed street concerts for a couple of days, collecting funds for the strikers' benefit. The ensemble comprises eight instruments.
New sub clerk RH C Evans will assume duties July 1 in the post office. Fulfilling the vacancy, Evans will perform substitute duties as roster changes take effect.

Professor Norman Schlichter of Lebanon Valley College married Miss Maude Etta Wolfe in a small ceremony at the college president's home. Dr. H A Roop conducted rites of the United Brethren church. Sunday worship at Zion Lutheran Church North Ninth Street shifted from the main auditorium to the chapel for the duration of planned improvements. The work will take several months to complete, delaying return to the main space until renovations finish.

He had worked in a Pittsburg wire mill and drank ice water seeking relief before collapse. His mother, kneeling beside him, reported he wished to return home to his father Andrew Wietrosky.
Mill workers refused to resume work under May 1 conditions after J H Sternbergh president of American Iron and Steel Manufacturing Company proposed terms. Sternbergh and colleagues visited Ross hall Cumberland street opposite the courthouse. The workers demand a six percent raise and after brief deliberation declined to consider the proposal.
Tac L. Grumbine esq returns from western trips and mass meetings in Franklin Venango and Berlin as Prohibition campaigns gain momentum. He reports strong party outlook, cites county ticket prospects, and recounts brief arrest in Berlin before a pro Prohibition audience. He plans Belfast Bangor Perkasie Fairmount Park appearances and a three month platform run.
Alice E White 33 died Sunday at her sister Mrs Frank Klines home 144 North Doe alley of consumption. She was daughter of Mr and Mrs George White of West Lebanon and sister to three brothers and three sisters. Amanda E Dorwert mother of Mrs Frank Donahue died this morning after 6 o clock at 61 Lehman aired aged 82 from kidney trouble and other diseases. She previously lived in Lancaster, known as Grandmother, daughter of Adam Messenkole. Funeral notices will appear in these columns.
Funeral services were led by Rev. Christian Bucher for Mrs. Michael Kegerreis, late of Schaefferstown, at the Dunkard meeting house in Retstville with burial in the adjacent cemetery. Rev. J. T. Shaffer conducted the funeral for Mrs. Christiana Bachman, widow of Jacob Bachman, from the Annville residence and she was buried at Mt. Annville.
Due to mill labor shortages caused by unpleasantness many workers leave the city daily. This morning puddler George Stine departed for Danville to take future work there.
John G. Walmer, a grocer on Seventh and Walnut, reported seeing a flock of wild geese flying north Sunday evening. The birds were low and appear to be migrating in search of breeding grounds in the north.
Miss Neltie Brooks trained nurse departed this afternoon for Baltimore to spend some time there before continuing to her home in Somerville New Jersey The note mentions James McDivitt of 127 South Sec Con Patrick in the Westminster file.
Thomas Crommell alias George Clarence Washington is to be hanged at the county jail at 10 a m tomorrow for the murder of Jacob Schmidt at Colebrook furnaces. The gallows was erected today in the jail yard as Crommell prepared for his final hours with Rev. John Mitchell Page. He has confessed, refused to speak unless the statement is required, and has been a model prisoner since his incarceration except for one prior night. Ex Sheriff Wells Booser will oversee preparations with Detective Riley Hingler and Constable Frank Yost. about 150 to 200 witnesses, including physicians, are expected to attend the execution.

The Young Ladies' Dorcas society meets Tuesday evening at Mrs Jonas Laldermileh's Weidman street residence. The Sweet Briar circle gathers Wednesday evening at the Misses Richards' Berwyn park home. The St James' Mission Workers meet Tuesday evening at Miss Mary Werner's Avon home.
The junior Christian Endeavor society of the First Reform ed Church plans a picnic at Penryn Park on Wednesday. Participants bring their own lunches and meet at the church at 9:45 in the morning for the 9:25 tram from Donaghmore station.
The state fish commission abandons the eastern Hatchery in Salisbury Lehigh County due to an inability to purchase the Reuben Troxell farm at a reasonable price. The plan is to move operations to Corry where the western fishery is located as Salisbury grounds fall into disrepair.
Fred Haddon, who recently purchased the City steam laundry on Scull Street, placed another delivery wagon on the road this morning to speed rapidly growing business. The wagon is painted yellow with a black top and gold fettering, described by a local observer as “as pretty as the young ladies employed in the laundry.”
W E Attick, newly appointed local superintendent at Metropolitan Insurance, takes over after C N Beck resigns. He moved his family and household goods to a West Cumberland Street home near the Cumberland House today.
Sunday the pulpit of Salem Evangelical Lutheran church was occupied by visiting ministers. In the morning Rev Dr Graden of Easton preached, and in the evening Rev Dr Haunt of Lancaster officiated. In the morning Dr Haupt also conducted services at Annville.
Presiding Elder HU S Gabel and Rev C I B Brane of Trinity U S church will leave tomorrow for Tyrone to attend a young people's meeting. From there they will proceed to Alcona where the state convention will be in session.
Adolph Lohse completed a trip visiting Philadelphia and Reading, reporting impressions from experiences and meetings conducted during the journey. The excursion included discussions with local officials and business associates.
Ex constable John Sohn saved a boy at Eighth and Cumberland streets on Saturday evening just as the Myerstown car neared. The child stood on the rack amid a crowd and did not notice the approaching vehicle, but was pulled clear in time.

Also reported a June wedding at Susquehanna township where Gertrude Vassler wed J Harper Nissley of Harrisburg with Rev. Lehman officiating. About 150 guests attended the lawn ceremony and a weeklong Washington, D. C. trip followed. The bride is known through many local relatives and friends in this city Palmyra and Jonestown.
