Public transfer exercises were held Wednesday evening with a large audience of parents and siblings. The event highlighted a notably large ninth grade class advancing to high school, prompting a need for an additional instructor.
President GH. Moyer of the county league announced that Palmyra’s forfeited game against Lebanon last Saturday at Palmyra will stand as no victory for Lebanon. No further action will be taken by Palmyra to contest Umpire Stoffman’s forfeit decision.
C J Rien commander of Leb anon regiment of Boys Little Ly gede was summoned to Lancaster today by the death of his father in law who died this morning from a stroke. The deceased long served as foreman of a Lutheran publication air caster and was a Civil War veteran. Mrs Rien and the children left for Lancaster on an early train.
Water superintendent B H Saroft and his assistant Wilson Huckman flush fire hydrants on the city outskirts this afternoon. They plan to finish on the south side of the railroad between Front and Eighth Streets tonight. Only small service plugs are flushed now and no water is wasted as dams overflow.
A Lebanon bar association meeting will be called soon to permit President CM Zerbe to announce committee changes. Members favor holding an outing in July.
Rev. John Shaud pastor of the By Lutheran church and Miss Tid Henke of Ridgeway Elk County were quietly married this morning at Sale By Lutheran church in this city by Rev. Dr. T. E. Schniauk. After the ceremony the couple drove to Annville to visit the Shuud and Henke parents.
SPECIAL NOTICE. All Mercantile Taxes for 1908 are due and must be paid at the office of the County Treasurer. Address and details appear garbled in the source, but the notice directs timely payment to the treasurer’s office to settle tax obligations.
John M. Seltzer formerly of this city and of Lock Haven writes that the News is a welcome letter from home and he could hardly do without it as he renews his subscription.
Odd Fellows memorial day observed with a service after Canton Lebanon No 19 Militant meeting. J P Snavely chaired and gave opening prayer. Calvin Proudfoot William M Snyder and F P Snavely spoke of sacrifices and chivalry of deceased members. One member John Smith of this city died in the past year.
City Treasurer Francis H. Gleim and deputy John Hither report heavy tax collection as large property owners rush to pay before July 1 to secure a one percent discount. After July 1 through September 1 the regular rate applies and penalties are added, with many taxpayers likely to claim the discount again this year given current early payments.
Lebanon Tent No. 402 Knights of the Maccabees announces elected officers to be installed at the first July meeting. Names include Past Commander Krall, Commander Keller, Lieutenant Commander Arnold, Chaplain Faust, Record Keeper Arnold, Master of Arms Lantz, First Guard High, Second Guard Wert, Sentinel Weiman, Picket Klespi, Trustee Arnold.
Strawberries fell in price as farmers faced weak demand at regular markets. Despite a large supply of fine berries, price held at 15 cents per box and two boxes for a quarter before buyers refused. To salvage sales, farmers lowered to ten cents per box. Reports indicate the berry crop is unusually large and prices may drop further with time.
President A M Puter announced 26 picnics scheduled at Penryn Park this season. Dates include June 20 Lawyers Bar Association in Lancaster and multiple Lebanon Lancaster events through September. Large gatherings from Lancaster, Manheim, and other parts of Lancaster County are planned.
John H. Leslie, director of the Perseverance band, reports a schedule of events. June 14 features Martn ers' outing at Penryn park on June 26 a Lebanon Wub outing, and a Union Sunday school event at Mt. Grevna, with St. Mary's Catholic choir ending at Penyya.
Miss Mmma Harper and members of her Sunday school class from Trinity Lutheran church plan a two day outing to Mt Gretna. They will occupy a cottage and spend the time enjoying the grounds and activities available.
In Palihva County league management with Potreiger boys plan Saturday afternoon action against Newmanstown. The teams are expected to reach satisfactory arrangements for the game at the latter place.
The Fourth Regiment N G P regimental shoot will be held at Allentown on Saturday June 27. Company A of this city has several candidates for places on the team.
Rev Oliver Mease of United Brethren officiated at a Wednesday wedding in Columbia at a bride’s home. Gertrude Shenk, daughter of Mr and Mrs Addison Shenk, was wed. Rev George Richter and Rev Monge attended. Newlyweds plan a wedding trip to Washington and southern cities and will reside on Peart Street in Lancaster.
Mrs. Robert Pitterey’s locket, lost fifteen feet under a lake platform, was found by a team including Charles Denking and Reuben Blalstein after a Daily News ad revived hope. The recovered locket, valued by Mrs. Pitterey far beyond its price, brought relief and thanks to the workers.
Henry Shenk and Radgar Culjiney returned from Nugaretti Wall Military School Northampton County to spend the summer with their parents Me and Mays. Tarr y J. Shenk resides at 274 Yinderland Street and Mr. and Mrs. Johan Yo Culliey live with the Keights.
Annual alumni banquet marks the commencement season with the Levanon High School class to participate in tonight’s exercises at the Academy of Music. Reserved first floor and balcony seats, gallery for non-ticket holders. Program features include “The Wreck of the Hesperus” and prizes by Dr. Weimer for top averages.
Rev A W Brownmiller and wife of Reading were visiting Oriendts and attending commencement at Albricht college Myers own when their nine year old nephew Arthur Shalloenberger disappeared in the Schuylkill river at Hatborg. The boy, who vanished Wednesday afternoon, drowned. two companions were frightened and did not report the incident promptly.
Port Carbon residents Prof. and Mrs. G. W. Channel are guests of their daughter at 509 Chestnut Street to attend Lebanon High School's annual commencement. Their granddaughter Miss May Alleen Drb is a graduating senior. Prof. Chanwell is principal of Port Carbon High School.
Clerk Kochenderfer issues a marriage license to H. K. Bamberger son of Levi Bamberger and Miss Sarah Bamberger daughter of U. S. Bamberger both of Lebanon. The couple are related by blood.
Mrs Sarah C Eisenhower wife of Martin W Eisenhower of Reading died on a Wednesday after stomach trouble. She was mother of Warren Misenhower of this city.
Amos Bomgardner, a longtime Grantville resident, died Wednesday at his home from inflammation of the bowels. He was 71, widowed ten years ago, with six daughters and two sons surviving. Funeral arrangements set for Saturday at the Grantville church with services at the dyantvil Upsted church.
