The records enumerate Alma Public Schools students by grade for 1934 including names across first through fourth grades with dental hygienist Martha K. Wengert named among staff. Notable names include Miss Turby Ruth Junior Greenawalt Jacque Fry Donald Barnes Violet Achenbach Francis Desantas and George Gingrich.
The United Brethren in Christ Church Anville choir held its annual banquet at Hershey Country Club with Alfred St. Miller as master of ceremonies. Pastor Rev William A Wilt thanked the group for their work since his arrival. The evening featured solos by Dale Roth, a paper on choir experiences by Helen Butterwick, songs by David K Shroyer, and a comedy enactment titled Credentials. Attendees included Mr. and Mrs. Charles M Coover, Rev and Mrs William A Wilt, and many other couples and members from Palmyra and surrounding areas.
Bk Kurinch aged 12 from Cornwall was treated at Good Samaritan ED after an incident at 6 45 PM. No further details available on condition or cause.
Palmyra on June 1 announces no playground equipment until the second week after R E Swank travels with the class of 1935 to Washington DC on June 4 5. Diskonia class at Palm United Lutheran church held with fifteen members. patriotic program included scripture readings prayers and musical solos.
Several beer licenses were refused renewal this year after an announced review at the office of County Treasurer Frank R. Moyer. Names listed include Hollywood Cafe on Lincoln Avenue near Cumberland, Blue Haven on Eighth Street near the courthouse, Jacob Brober of Mt. Gretna, Bill Lyons on Cedar Avenue, and others not disclosed. Additional licenses saved up to today include Strauss & Beck Inc Twin Grove Park Suedberg Alex Reinshew A eighth and Maple Streets A M Miller Ainville John Barry 3881 Lehman Street M B Augeneacker Lawn and Harry B Meyer in Fredericksburg.
County treasurer grants 101 retailer licenses along with seven distributor and four club licenses, plus ongoing transfers from Harrisburg. Some long-time licensees did not renew, and several scattered clubs and hard liquor outlets remain licensed under state rules. Most outlets opened Saturday on legal grounds. a few delayed due to license processing or revocation.
Sunday after noon memorial event at Kleinfeltersville drew a large attendance. William Molser of Lebanon spoke. Parade units from William Bollman Post American Legion Veterans of Foreign Wars Heideberg Chamber Order Knight of Friendship and the Sunday School marched to the cemetery for ceremonies. Mill Creek Township High School Band provided music.
The Palmyra borough school board plans to apply for a federal grant to build a new junior senior high school. A land tract next to the current grounds has been bought, and crowding has forced half day schedules for lower grades. A special meeting to advance the plan is set for next Monday evening.
Rev A P Bachman united Margaret Strickler and C J Smith in marriage at Schaefferstown. The bride, richland and Lebanon high schools alumna and five year county teacher, is known as an amateur whistler. Groom, Lebanon High School 1924 graduate, works at Hershey Chocolate and will reside at the Hershey Estate.
D L Sattazahn of Avon bought an Ayrshire bull calf at the show and sale held by the Pennsylvania Ayrshire Breeders Association in Harrisburg. The Old Forge Farm Spring Grove consigned the bull, which brought $140. The event drew over 400 attendees from Maryland New Jersey New York Canada and Pennsylvania.
Miss Mary Werner Miss Katie Klink Miss Catherine Stein and Miss Kathryn Menge visited Sunday with Rev. and Mrs. M. C Elchner in Philadelphia. Miss Menge served as guest soloist at the Lutheran Church of the Advocate where Rev. Elchner is pastor. Rev. and Mrs. Eichner formerly lived in Anville and he once served St. James Lutheran and St. Paul’s Lutheran churches there.
In Shanamanstown on May 29 Reuben Sheetz and his son Richard hosted visitors at Lititz while Rev Phares Forney of East Petersburg and Rev Walter Hartman of South Annville joined dinner at the Monroe Zeigler home. Several others called Sunday including Yoder of Reading Marks and son Buddy from Richland John Boyer of Sporting Hill and Jacob Stickler plus Rhoda Mae Zeigler and family. Additional calls were made at the Stickler and Ritter homes in Mannheim and by Kate Ritter and Florence Sandy with Rollin.
Bill Patton captain of Temple University baseball, known for his hard hitting, will report to the Philadelphia Athletics on June 15. He arrived home Saturday morning to spend the weekend with family.
Police say Harold K. Bomberger of Lebanon Route 5 struck a parked car owned by David Shone of Lebanon Route 4 on Ninth Street. Patrolman Harry Bichelberger provided initial details of the crash.
Two people were injured when an automobile overturned after crashing into a pole on the William Penn highway near Grantville Wednesday afternoon. Mrs Sadie Johnson, 32, and Hazelton Haer moh, both colored, were treated at Good Samaritan hospital. Johnson had burns and bruises, Harmon suffered back injuries and possible broken bones.

The thirtieth annual Annville High School Alumni Association banquet drew about 150 members, friends, and guests at Green Terrace. Speakers included Ike Long and class president Arthur Wood, with music by Helen Butterwick and a quartet. Dr Clyde Lynch urged unity to strengthen the alumni network.
Mr and Mrs Charles L Harkins of 360 North Fourth Street announce the marriage of their daughter Dorothy Elizabeth to Dr Kenneth J Crothers on Wednesday May 28 at Valley Forge Memorial Chapel. The ceremony was attended by Dr and Mrs Gifford Crothers Florence Welby and Ramuel Curry. Mrs Crothers is a Lebanon High School 1984 graduate and Joseph Price Hospital nurse. Dr Crothers is Jefferson Medical graduate.
Annville high school staged its forty fourth commencement in the school auditorium after a series of events starting with the baccalaureate at United Brethren church. Dr. W A Wilt and Dr. D W Kurtz spoke, the class included forty four seniors, and diplomas were awarded by Principal Charles G Dotter. The program featured music, literary offerings, and awards for top graduates, with an excursion to Washington planned for next week.
An automobile crash Friday at Eighth and Church Streets damaged both cars for more than $50. The drivers were A W Shaffer of Lincoln and Cyrus Beamesderfer of 401 South Ninth Street. neither was injured.
Misa Dorothy L Dosch and Regt A Koons both of York were married at the parsonage of the Tabor Reformed church according to local society notes and church records.
