A Montgomery dispatch reports over 1000 white citizens attended the funeral of Rob Goodwin, a one-armed Black ferryman who saved lives on the Alabama River. Despite his heroism, the event drew sharp reactions as pallbearers included Black boys, while Governor Comer’s son protested for missing the service. The drowning occurred March 10 after a log struck Goodwin, delaying his rescue as crews searched the river for the body.

Pottsville Fire Department eight companies may strike after a meeting next Friday if Borough Council does not restore the annual $1000 per company appropriation. Council reduced funds by 25 percent. Chief Burgess George J. Smith vetoed the move and the veto was overruled by Councils.
Mayor Charles Hunlcker of Allentown wed Miss Lillian Henninger on a Wednesday morning. Rev J G Swengel performed the ceremony. there were no attendants. The couple plans a transcontinental honeymoon via Denver Yellowstone Park and the Alaska Yukon Exposition. Hunlcker, a graduate of Franklin and Marshall and UPenn Law, has built 125 houses in five years and remains active as a lawyer and builder. The bride is a soprano and vocal teacher at Allentown College for Women and was re elected to the faculty despite the marriage.
Alderman Walsh of Wilkes-Barre Pennsylvania sent Mrs. Anthony Daniela and former boarder Andrew O Leski to jail to await Grand Jury action on a murder charge. Two weeks earlier the Daniela home burned, the husband’s charred body found among the ruins, with reports of a preceding fight before the fire.
Unsettled market notes show wheat unchanged and butter steady with 26 169 packages of creamery goods reported. Eggs and potatoes display mixed prices across state regions while live poultry dressed poultry and hay and straw markets present varied steady to firm values.
Philadelphia reports three day sale trends ending Wednesday. Beef cattle showed moderate trade with a hold-off tilt due to trolley strike. steers ranged from 63 to 64 plus quality, cows up to 35 to 46 with some exceptional lots. calves firm with good to choice in high 80s to 90s. Hogs traded seasonably with firm quotes. western hogs priced 20 to 16 per hundredweight based on size and quality. city dressed stock strong with best meats firm, veal calves and spring lambs showing varied quotes.
Pittsburg stockyards June 2 cattle receipts light and slow. Prices show choice at $6,807 and prime $6,506.75. Sheep supply light and steady with prime wethers $26.15 per head, culls and common $2.64, lambs $407.75, veal calves $838.28. Hogs receipts light and lower with prime heavies $7.60 and ranges for heavy Yorkers $7.40 to $7.50, West Yorkers $7.10 to $7.60, roughs $6.60 to $6.90.
