An Annville home on Summit street faced a near house fire when a fiber brush left in a stove overheated and burned an inner wall. Fire alarms summoned Union Hose and Rescue Company to extinguish flames after removing the kitchen tin roof. no injuries reported among residents listed.
Court records recount two trespass collisions involving Lehman taxi driver Homer Maulfasr and David RiGrubsy against John Walter. One case settled, the other decided in favor of the plaintiff. Town enjoyed detour signs and improved traffic flow after a period of delays. Police cited speeding beyond the limit as drivers used the new concrete thoroughfare.
B. E. Marshall III and B. B. Marshalls are confined to bed with a heavy cold that may develop into further illnesses. They receive sympathy from a host of friends who wish them a speedy recovery.
The Girl's Missionary Guild of the Reformed Church held its jy meeting at the home of Entz. A fine Christmas program was rendered by a group of girls. After the monthly business, a social hour ensued with luncheon in a blue and yellow decorated dining room. Prizes were awarded in a Sarah birthday contest and guests left wishing Sarah happy birthdays. Attending were Dr. Bregsard and Mrs. M.
With no pastor, Dr Juyter’s resignation leaves the United Brethren church vacant. Dr Butterwick and Dr Ritchie of Lebanon Valley College will preside for seven weeks each, possibly aided by visiting ministers. A spring appointment is expected, with a permanent pastor chosen at the East Pennsylvania Conference in October.
Mr and Mrs Paul J Ferry hosted a Sunday turkey dinner with many friends and relatives present. Attendees included Mr and Mrs George Bell and children Ralph Earl Kelffer and Pauline, Mr and Mrs John Batdorf, Mr and Mrs J C Landermilch and Isaac Biewer, all of Palmyra, Mr and Mrs Christian Groff and children Hilda and Leroy of Union Deposit, Mr and Mrs Charles Keiffer and son Charles of Abanon, Mr and Mrs John Zellers, Mr and Mrs Jarod Horn, Mr and Mrs Cassel Laudermilch and son Garman, John Garman, and Mr and Mrs Paul J Ferry and daughter Miss Mary Jane.
Reverend M B Spayd D D pastor of Tong United Brethren will preach at 10 30 Sunday morning service. At 7 30 in evening the children's exercises will be held led by Anna Kreider Mills Mills Snyder and Snyder. They will present their annual Christus program.
Mr and Mrs Roy Keller received congratulations on the birth of a son last week and now have three healthy boys. Mrs Simon A Wolfe also received word that a baby girl was born to their family.
Christmas Day hosts included Mic and Mrs George W Saixder at a Friday noon dinner with guests from Boiling Springs Harrisburg and Reading. Other families enjoyed gatherings with Kreider and Shroyer relations and extended kin from Elizabethtown Lebanon and beyond, sharing meals and festive company.
Miss Edith Hender visited her parents Mr and Mrs Samuel Bender over the holidays. Miss Bandt er teaches in Hichwood New Jersey and enjoys teaching. Mrs Elin Johnson visits Reading with friends. Barbara and Beesle Kinporty and H J Kinporta spent Christmas at Hershey as guests of Rey and Mrs Paul Kinporta. Mr and Mrs Robert Shumaker of Altoona spend the weekend with Mrs Shumaker's parents Mr and Mrs Harry Wood. Jacob Walter of Millersburg visits sister Miss Prigenla Walter. Miss Anna Bomberger, Ithaca Conservatory student, spends holidays with her parents. Miss Anna Bodenham teaches at Mt Union and vacationing at home. Robert Kreider, Plerea School of business student, home for vacation. George Kreider, Yale student, home for holidays at Hill Farms. Mr and Mrs George H Davis of New York City visit Mrs Davis's parents Dr and Mrs H Zimmerman. Mr and Mrs James Wood and family of Harrisburg spend Christmas with Mr D W Wood.
Relatives and friends in Lebanon mourn the Christmas death of Edwin G. Rust, a Lebanon native now of Leesburg, Virginia. An industrial engineer and Lehigh University graduate, Rust died of pneumonia at 7:30 a.m. Christmas Day while in Youngstown for winter work. He pioneered a boiler device for furnace work, and his career spanned the Carniwall ore mines, Sheridan furnace, Colebrook furnaces, and Melly furnace plants. He leaves a wife Margie Meily and two children, Margaret Leg Rust and Anna Meily Rust. His mother was a first cousin to General Robert E. Lee. Funeral plans are set in Leesburg.
Berks county prepares for new road construction with 60 miles of top quality roads planned for the coming year. Clarence E F Smith, district engineer for the State Highway Department, notes the project aims at improving routes to Rehrersburg and nearby areas at an estimated cost of about 42 000 per mile.
Solomon Jackson of 4232 South Sixth Street was discharged from Good Samaritan Hospital after losing his eyesight in an accident at Luria Brothers scrap yards. Friends visited and wished him a merry Christmas and happy new year as he returns home.
Funeral rites were held today for Mary B. Behney of 713 Chestnut Street at 2 PM in St Johns Reformed Church with Rev Hoffmeier presiding. Interment followed at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery. D A Frantz was in charge of arrangements. Paul Charles Lear, infant son of John Lear, died at 41 South King Street Annville from pneumonia after a week of illness. He was 11 months old and survived by parents and siblings John Dorothy Udwin Esther and Betty Jane.
Nora Mantrel, two year old daughter of Mr and Mrs John Mantrel, died Saturday morning in the Lebanon sanatorium after a two week illness from pneumonia. Survived by her parents and brothers Querrie Mafalda and Philomena.
Daniel Bomberger of Schaeffers town died at his home on Christmas Day after eleven weeks of illness. He was 81 years old and a longtime member of the Reformed church. Surviving: his daughter Mrs Daniel Sprecher of Ebenezer, and two sisters Miss Sara Bomberger and Mrs William Walters, both of Schaeffers town, with many friends mourning his loss.
The remains of Ballie Fe. Wike of West Chestnut Street were laid to rest in Ebenezar Cemetery after services led by Rev. A. J. Bachman and Rev. Longansetk er. Henry Sholly of 520 Maile Street was buried at Kimmerlings Reformed Church with memorials and floral tributes. John Reist of Millbach Springs died Christmas morning after a cold turned pneumonia, with Ta pehocken Council and other groups noting his community ties. Peter Burgner of Union Township was conducted to burial at Walmer’s church cemetery with many relatives and floral tokens. funeral directors H. C. Rohland and others oversaw arrangements.
Mrs Lucy Arndt of Jonestown died Thursday at her home after two weeks of illness. She was 72 and a member of St John’s Reformed Church. She actively supported religious work during her confinement. A companion at Jonestown attended the service.
Lee Greenawalt, 21, was arrested Friday by State police at his girlfriend’s home in Bunker Hill Lebanon County. Police say he confessed to stealing tires and tools from George E. Felty’s car on Pine Grove’s main street last Wednesday night and to hiding other parts. He was found with two revolvers and cartridges during arrest.
The Patrol Leaders Training Course by the Boy Scouts training committee was called off due to rainy weather. It was to run two days after Thanksgiving with 124 scouts registered, but only about 65 would attend now. Officials expect the course to run between Decoration Day and the Fourth of July before Camp Strause opens, while Winter Camp plans remain on schedule for next week.
James Jordan of Shariesville reported Friday night theft of his Ford route on Fourteenth Street. Police found the car at the City Garage after it had been towed from the Pennsylvania Round House rear by Charles Davis and Howard Books, with license plates removed.
LeRoy Wentz of 915 Mifflin Street and Liberty Fire Company members detected smoke at 12:15 a.m. near Ninth and Mifflin. He alerted Bailor and family at 605 North Ninth, aided by neighbors, the fire crew quickly extinguished a chimney fire with only minor damage to Bailor’s home.
Daniel B. Livering and Elda Mere Wilkins of Cornwall were married at the Cornwall M B Parsonage on Wednesday December 23 at 8 30 A M by Rev L Sohgeffer pastor of the Cornwell M B Church. The ceremony used a ring and formal vows.
Mr and Mrs John W Fernsler of 1106 Lehman Street announce the engagement of their daughter Virginia Rebecca Fernsler to Harry L Tice of this city at a Christmas Day dinner. Both are active in local music circles including Lebanon Conservatory of Music and St Johns Reformed Sunday School orchestra. Tice is a young merchant with interests in a haberdashery, Compton Dry Cleaning, and the Radio Shop on South Westghth street. Guests traveled from Lebanon Harrisburg Reading Philadelphia and Cynwyd.
George B. M. Behney and sister Miss Emma Benney hosted a large family reunion on Christmas Day with relatives from Bethlehem New York City Pittsburgh and others. A turkey dinner and reminiscences followed greetings from Mr and Mrs John Behney and family and the Behney clan.

Sander of Marysville.
Mrs. Edward Griffith, of 320 Canal Street, was struck by a Chevrolet truck driven by Abraham Root while crossing near Cumberland and Seventh Wad. She suffered head, arm, leg, and body lacerations and abrasions, was treated at work by Dr. Allen Rutherford, and was resting comfortably at home this afternoon.
Harvey Hower of Sand Hill impersonated Santa and delivered candy and oranges to school aged children across the Sand Hill district. Children were surprised when Old Saint Nick entered homes and distributed gifts. Raymond Donmoyer aided by driving Santa in his car and Charles Light accompanied them to spread joy to the kids. The journey began from the rated Chrlem 3.
More than 1500 people including 600 children gathered in Liberty Square on Christmas Day for a program featuring prayers by Rev. H. E. Miller and a choral selection by St Luke's Episcopal choir under Howard Jones. Rev. Charles B. Kelur af delivered a simple, timely talk on The Real Christmas Spirit, followed by more carols. Santa Claus, impersonated by Herman Hoelzte, handed out candy boxes, oranges, and winesap apples to 425 children as the Liberty Fire Company hosted a grand tree and party with city merchants aiding with electricity, candy, and fruit donations.
Toward W. Gingrich of 1181 Walnut street reported his Overland touring car stolen Thursday night at 11:60 from a Fifth and Cumberland street parking place. Police recovered the 1926 license No. 002-301, 1923 model vehicle on Christmas morning at 12:30.
