Prison riot at Nebraska pen ends in two dead
Lincoln, Sept 29. An investigation opened at the state penitentiary after a deadly riot aimed at freeing inmates. Fred Brown, a noted murderer and kidnapper, led the attempt, while guard Clarence Morse and accomplice Roy Smith were wounded or killed. A guard T A Rieger killed Brown and was wounded. Brown allegedly smuggled rifles and nitroglycerin into the yard, but bombs at the gates failed to open a path to liberty for over twenty prisoners.

Bodies Raised From Submarine Hull After Rescue Dive
New London Conn Sept 20 the body of J L Gibson engineman was found today in the sunken hull of a submarine at the base. William Reid of Bayonne N J opened the hatch and sent the body to surface. The second body was that of William Teschemacher fleet canman of Indianapolis Ind recovered from the hull. Officers say orders to retrieve lean parts and life preservation guided the effort as the sub was hoisted. Gibson had a wife in New London who learned the tragedy with the formal message from Commander Scanton.
