Hawaii flight crew returns after nine day sea ordeal
Commander John Rodgers and his five naval fliers arrived aboard the Idaho in San Francisco after a failed Hawaiian flight. Crowds at the Gardens Gate welcomed the seaplane crew, who drifted nine days in tropical waters when their aircraft ran out of gasoline. Rescue seemed unlikely but they survived.

Miller to Retire as Fire Marshal

Mail worker survives ten foot fall at station
John Dad Wall, a government mail transporter, plunged from a freight elevator at Pennsylvania station on West Main Street. He sustained a deep forehead gash, body bruising, and brief unconsciousness.
