Indianapolis Sept 22 Senate moved county local option bill as Republicans united to pass without further amendments. House planned to wait on Senate action, then receive the bill for final passage. Session featured lengthy debate with speeches and skirmishing. adjournments set for 2 and 3 p m.
After a reading of the bill King of Miami and Howard moved it to a committee of its author for amendment as designated in the motion. The move passed and Senator Cox of Indianapolis reported the amendments adopted by Republicans in conference. Lieut Governor Miller asked for names of speakers, receiving cards from Slack Stotsenburg Moss and Kister on the Democrats and Cox Gandart Kling Mattingly Mack T. T. Moore Parks Marshall Kosciusko Stephenson on the Republicans. The Senate adjourned at 1 pm until 2 45 for a vote on the Cox bill.
In Indianapolis the House opened at 16 clock with prayer by Rev. M. H. Appleby. Seven bills were introduced including campaigns to amend the school-book law and weekly wage law. Ed wards, the floor leader, blocked attempts to suspend rules. Pierson, a temperance Democrat, presented a petition bearing 12,563 names for statewide prohibition. The House adjourned until 2 p.m.
In Indianapolis on September 23 the Cox bill, the Indiana Anti Salo on League measure, was amended by committee and conference Republicans. Changes set 200 percent voting population for option elections, cut minimum interval between option elections to two years, and replaced prohibit with control. Conferrees praised harmony and voted to pass without further changes.
Mrs Louise Quick wife of William Quick died Tuesday at her home in Harrison Township after a three month illness. The 62 year old native of Lawrence County was born May 45 1815 and died May 22 1867. Surviving are children Cora Baker and Allee Shaw, a brother Daniel J. Smith, and four sisters Mahala Nis beth Jane Powell Sarah Sexton and Emily Quick. Funeral Thursday at Mt Run church with Rev C A Brown officiating. Interment Mt Run cemetery.
The Crawfordsville Journal reports Harry Nixon a well known horse trainer died this morning at about four in his room on East Main Street after months of illness. A Clinton County native he trained famed horses including American Belle and Bald Hornet era rivals. He leaves son Freeman Nixon and a brother. Funeral held today in Crawfordsville.
Miss Edna M. Clark and James Die Berry wed at the bride's mother's Thorntown home on South Market Street. The ceremony was at 5 o'clock with about fifty guests and a ring ceremony conducted by Rev. Roland W. Williams. Eight refreshments followed as the couple departed on the midnight train for a trip to New York and Washington before settling in.
The September term of the Boone Circuit Court adjourned on Tuesday afternoon and will reconvene November 2. In the case Samuel J. Smith et al versus Dana A. Herring et al for partition, the filing of report was extended to the next term.
Mrs Florence Whiteman filed for divorce in the circuit court citing twenty three years of marriage ending September 26 1908 after alleged cruel inhuman treatment name calling and threats of abandonment. They had one son who died after reaching manhood.

John Pritchard a farmer from near Pittahero Indiana was fatally injured when struck by a Vandalia train at Harding street crossing Indianapolis. He died an hour after at City Hospital. The accident occurred while he was transporting hogs to the Indianapolis Stock Yards. four hogs and the driver’s horses were killed. Pritchard had a broken leg a fractured left arm severe facial injuries and internal damage. City physicians arrived but could not save him.
Yesterday marked the seventy fifth birthday of Mrs. W. J. Dooley. Relatives gathered at her home for a noon meal and gifts including a willow rocking chair a large picture diaries and other small items. Present were her four surviving children and several grandchildren and a great grandchild with additional relatives.
Wrangel Alaska September 22 one hundred ten of 337 aboard the cannery ship Star of Bengal drowned when the vessel broke apart near Coronadan Island. Twenty seven survivors were rescued by tug Hattie Gage and Captain Farrer of the Mattie. Survivors buried fifteen white men on Catsmad en island beach. The Burnside reported total loss. masts remained above water as wreck was towed to sea. The Breeches buoy failed, but a kerosene fire kept survivors from freezing. The ship’s wrecked crew included many Japanese workers.
The state library commission reports growth across Indiana with over seventy newly erected library buildings. Most buildings include children rooms, reference areas, assembly spaces, adult reading rooms, and librarian workspaces, plus features like history rooms, clubs meeting rooms, museums, art galleries, and even smoking rooms for men.
Danville Ind Sept 2 a telegram received here yesterday says Peter Brent a former telegraphic operator shot his wife Hattie Brent in Los Angeles CA She was taken to a hospital condition not stated The report adds Mrs Brent was formerly connected with the local telegraph office.
