Water works superintendent Halfman orders reduced sprinkling hours due to drought. Sprinkling limited to 5 30 to 7 00 am with a 630 per meter cap. if not followed, all sprinkling may stop. Fire protection and emergency supply drive the measure amid improving but fragile city reserves.
The fire department responded yesterday to multiple blazes on West South Street and near South A, including a barn owned by Mrs N Gabriel adjoining Pinnell and Coombs lumber sheds. The storage house and a frame dwelling were saved with minor damage. A second fire near the Big Four involved railroad ties close to Indestructible Steel Works, threatening but contained.
Hart of Thorntown dominated at the New State Fair in Syracuse winning first on cockeral, first on cockerel, and second on pullet during the exhibition. He entered multiple birds among 103 entries, securing several prizes.
Darlington News reports Elwood Harris, a carpenter known for drinking, was arrested Saturday after assaulting the town marshal during a drunken spree. Harris fought back with a club and was placed in the lock-up, sobered, and released on bond as rumors of local option circulate.
Senator W. Murray Crane departed for Chicago to take active control of the national campaign as Chairman Hitchcock is retained in title. Reports say Crane will push to energize operations. Mr. Tatt confirms Hitchcock remains but offers no further comment.

John Haffner a well known conductor sought the owner of a letter delivered Saturday. He found a one-cent postage due mail in the post office meant for someone else. The name resembled his but was not his, addressed to John Habner and misread as Habner.
A noon blaze at the Northwestern power house damaged the high tension tower and insulation, burning two wires and interrupting traction service. Firefighters contained the flame within an hour, but the line remained out until temporary connections were made. Efforts focused on repairs as Lafayetter Indianapolis power assistance and temporary restores were arranged.
The Lafayette Courier reports Wilder Brigade reunion plans including a Miller monument project and a large homecoming festival. Activities feature fireworks from a river barge, 20,000 spectator boats, automobile parades, illuminated car night parade, industrial and military parades, band contests, and a two story fire display. Invitation letters will go to 5,000 former residents. The event aims to draw about 6,000 attendees with potential railroad fare concessions.
The Crawfordsville water works committee hired Prof. R L Sackett of Purdue to inspect the plant as a hydraulic engineer. He will report on needed repairs after a period of low supply and tainted, yellowish water, with the city council possibly forcing improvements or canceling the contract.

Alberta Berryhill marked her fifth birthday with a celebration at the home of Mr and Mrs R E Berryhill. Thirty two little friends attended the afternoon party with pink and white decorations and cream and cake. The hostess gave each guest a picture of herself as a keepsake. Frances Hendricks assisted in entertaining. Out of town guests Esther and Edwin Berryhill and Miles Reardon of Indianapolis joined the celebration.
Misa Edna Wilson, formerly a Lebanon schools teacher, has received an appointment to a position in the Albert Lane Mijdr School of Chitawo. The promotion reflects efficient service in the Grammar Schools of the area.
