The Centenary M B church welcomed Rev HM Appleby as the new pastor after his introductory remarks to a large Sunday morning congregation. He said he seeks no advantage from his ministerial cloth and wishes to be regarded simply as a man.
The Rev. Mr. Appleby impressed the congregation with his clear forceful preaching and eloquent language. He spoke on unity through life with Christ, not creed, stressing that branches derive life from the vine and must bear fruit to fulfill God’s manifestation. After service, members visited the pastor at the home of Mr. and Mrs. 89.
An attentive audience welcomed Mrs Noble in her first appearance as pastor of the Central U B Church. The Rev Alice Noble preached introductory sermon at 10:80 am on This is done other than the House of God and the Gates of Heaven, appealing for sanctity of God’s house and zeal in Christian life and expressed satisfaction with the coming year’s work.
David Ghere died Saturday at his Colfax home after a long illness. He was over eighty, born in Pennsylvania and long a Clinton County resident. Funeral at Colfax Methodist Church Monday at 4 pm with burial in Bunnell cemetery. Survived by four children Mrs Jacob Tice Manson Howard George Jacob Ghere of Kansas and Isaac unknown, and Mollie Ghere at home. He was a Methodist and his wife had predeceased him.
Erastus Pittinger aged 76 years 9 months 10 days died Sunday morning at 6 a m at his residence in Washington township after a year's illness. Born December 3 1831 in Pike County Ohio he married Martha Aldrich December 10 1956 in Boone County. Surviving children are Sarah Warren Mary Jaques Caroline Bennett Louella Cory and James A deceased Frank William Anna Church Albert Nora Pittinger. He leaves sisters Rhoda Aldrich Sarah Lowney Eliza Wilson. Member of Mechanicsburg Methodist Church joined nineteen years ago. Funeral Tuesday at Hopewell Church at 10 a m Rev DB Banta officiating Interment Hopewell Cemetery pallbearers Perry Perkins Asa Warren Wilford Warren Ancil Jaques Russell Cory Harry Church.

Lebanon City Schools opened with enrollment in the high school around 285, up from 213 last year. Freshman class about 105, senior class over forty. The new building is not yet complete but rooms are ready. Dedicatory plans may be postponed until after the election.
Indiana cities receive a proposed model milk ordinance mandating licensing of milk sellers and annual renewals. It requires certificates from the city board of health, milk dairies meeting sanitary standards, cattle disease checks, and twice yearly inspections by a veterinary surgeon to ensure safe milk production.
A Saturday ceremony at the Storms home in Scircleville united Miss Stella Storms and Mr. George Wimborough of Lebanon. Rev. Clem Ricketts performed the ring service on the veranda before about seventy five guests. The bridal party included Miss Alta Storms as bridesmaid and Everett Goar as best man. The couple will reside at 70 North Meridian Street after a wedding supper under Japanese lanterns.
A brick schoolhouse in Fairfield Hendricks county Indiana was dynamited last night, badly damaging the building and shaking nearby areas. A dispute between Fairfield and Friendswood over a new school site may have prompted the act. Dr J N Murty condemns both structures and suspects a pending arrest.
The Weather Bureau issued a forecast noting a first well defined disturbance from the North Pacific and a West Indian system moving toward the Southeastern coast. The combination should bring abundant rains to drought stricken districts in the north and central states before the week ends.
Harry Cameron surprised locals by landing a twenty four pound carp at Sugar Creek near Darlington. The large fish attached to a trotline Cameron had near his operation, attracting astonishment from nearby residents.
Elijah Parkhurst died at 10 45 am Saturday in Franklin from paralysis after an illness of one week. Born September 12 1825 in Kentucky, he lived in Johnson and Boone counties before settling in Lebanon where he resided 35 years. He married Mary A Tyler in 1845 and Nancy Mitchell in 1856. Surviving: eight children from first marriage including Mrs. PL Wered, now in Brownsburg, and three from second marriage including Mrs. Vina Peters Mrs Willis Knott of Indianapolis and Mrs Julia Shirley of Lebanon. A member of the LO C FP and a Regular Baptist, he moved from Tennessee as a boy. Funeral held Sunday at 3 10 pm in Lebanon with burial at Oak Hill under LO C FP rites.
Miss Gertrude Bleistein of Younker’s Des Moines Iowa has been named buyer for muslin underwear knit wear and infants departments. The promotion marks a significant advancement for a new employee in the large Des Moines store.
A Chicago suburban train collided with a rear of a special excursion train near Chesterton Indiana on a foggy night. One woman died instantly and twenty-eight passengers were seriously injured while five were critically injured. Many others sustained injuries across Indianapolis and Chicago. Local doctors aided victims before they were transported to Mercy Hospital or Mercy Hospital in Chicago for treatment.
