Twenty Eight Injured in New York Subway Fire
A rush hour fire on a southbound subway near Grand Central Terminal injured twenty eight people, eighteen women among them, as passengers jammed cars and panicked, trampling others and breaking doors and windows to escape the smoke and heat. Two victims were reported dying in hospitals. the blaze caused insulation to burn and lights to explode as the train halted.

Witness Missing in Shepherd Case
Chicago May 19 Attempts to convict William D Shepherd of murdering Billy McClintock were hampered by the disappearance of key witness Robert White. Assistant State's Attorney George Gorman said White could not be found and had moved his family from a South Side residence. Investigators were sent to locate him, with Gorman warning the case would be weakened without White. White had identified Shepherd as a caller at the National University of Sciences where typhoid germs were allegedly obtained. Dr Charles Farman, head of the school, admitted Shepherd sought advice and that Farman supplied germs and guidance on how to use them to cause the death. He also admitted assisting in the alleged murder.

New Instruments Arrive for 139th Band in Lebanon
The 139th Field Artillery Band will receive new government purchased instruments worth 3000 dollars. Warrant Officer James H. Hoy announced shipments from Indianapolis arrive Wednesday evening and will be distributed during rehearsal.
